Johann and Caroline (nee TRIEBWASSER) SCHUMACHER came to Towner County, South Dakota in 1896 and homesteaded northwest of Egeland. Johann was born in Glueckstal, south Russia in 1864 and his wife Caroline was born in 1868 in Eigenheim, Bessarabia, south Russia. They had nine children born in Egeland, their names were John Jr., William, Emanuel, Hilda, Louise, Erna, Emma, and Caroline. Both Johann Sr.(died 1942) and wife Caroline(died 1928) are buried in Egeland. They were active members of the Egeland German Lutheran Church. Their daughter, Caroline, married Ernest WALTER (son of William Frederick WALTER and Florentine BERG) in 1916 and resided in Egeland for a number of years as well before moving to Plummer, Minnesota and homesteading a farm there. If you have any information on either the WALTER or SCHUMACHER families or their descendents, I would be interested in obtaining additional data for my family genealogical research.

My grandfather (Oscar JØRGENSEN) had two elder sisters who left Norway in 1907 or 1908. Beate (Beth or Betty) JØRGENSDATTER ANTONSEN was born 7th May 1888 and Anne was born 11th Dec. 1890. They came from Løten in eastern Norway. Beate married THOMPSON and had a daughter named Gladys. She had a lot of children, but I only know the name Gladys. Anne married JOHNSON, but I don’t know if she had any children. I have heard that one of them lived near a small town called Rock Lake in North Dakota but I’m not sure. Beate and Anne wrote regulary to a younger sister Agnes in Norway, but when she died, all correspondence stopped. I would like to reestablish the contact.
