Date: 1963 Funeral services for Mrs. Amelia Rebsch were held Saturday afternoon, February 2, at the Holmes Evangelical United Brethren Church and interment will be made in the church cemetery. Pastor Walter Schott officiated and Mrs. Elmer Ollman was organist. Special music was furnished by Pastor and Mrs. Schott. Pallbearers were Arthur Fischer, Henry Biene, Otto Gensrich, Erwin Nienas, Arnold Nienas and Ralph Schroeder. Mrs. Rebsch was 88 years of age at the time of her death and was a long time resident of Grand Forks County. She died Wednesday, January 30 at the Northwood Nursing Home. A native of Rochester, Minn., she was married there to Charles Rebsch in 1897 and the couple homesteaded in the Holmes community. She was a member of the Holmes Evangelical United Brethren Church and of its Women's Society for World Service. Mr. Rebsch passed away in 1950 and a son and daughter also preceded their mother in death. Survivors include two sons Reuben and Elmer of Thompson; three daughters Mrs. Berthold Scheel and Mrs. Ole Lee of Reynolds, and Mrs. Lester Farringer of Olympia, Wash.; one brother C.F. Woitte in Canada; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Relatives coming from a distance to attend the service included Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Semrau and Joanne of Towner, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Felix Semrau of Williston, Mr. Harold Buri of Hazen and his daughter Mrs. Chester Halverson of Northwood, Ruth Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest H. Mrs. W.S. Dean, prominent pioneer of the Holmes area, died Saturday morning at the Chicago home of her daughter, Mrs. E.K. Munson. She was 79 years old. Born in Woodhall, Ill. September 8, 1866, Mrs. Dean came here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Wyman in 1881, settling in Union township. In 1885 she married W.S. Dean and they made their home near Hatton, N.D., where she lived until moving to live with her daughter several years ago. Both her husband and father were elected to the state legislature, each serving several terms. W.S. Dean who died in 1917, served his first legislative term in 1907. She is survived by two daughters in addition to Mrs. Munson, Mrs. E. M. Kent, of Hatton and Mrs. Virgil Schwartz of Minneapolis; and three sons, Royce and Floyd of Hatton and Claude of Cleveland, Ohio. Surviving grandchildren include Mrs. Ray Brenna and Mrs. Robert Grina, Grand Forks; William, Doris, Jeannette and John Dean, Hatton; Jack Dean, Miami, Fla.; and Virginia Schwartz, Minneapolis, Minn. One great-grandchild, Carolyn E. Grina, Grand Forks also survives. Funeral arrangements were not announced. Contributed by Ardy Moe. |
