This information was compiled from the Federal and State Census records for Otsego County, 
New York, from 1790 to 1925. There are inevitable errors, some resulting from poor quality 
microfilm images of the census records, others from transcription errors of all sorts. 
Users finding errors of any sort are invited to communicate with Hugh MacDougall, so that 
they can be corrected.


	
For Otsego County, only the 1825 State Census for the Town of Otsego has survived. 
It lists names of householders, their race ("white" or "colored"), the number of males 
and females in the household, and the number of "colored" persons in the household (divided 
into three tax and voting categories, but no colored person in the Town of Otsego was taxed 
or could vote). Several other statistics were provided (females of or below childbearing 
age, births and marriages during the year, and livestock). ["Neat cattle" are livestock 
with cloven hoofs, from which "neatsfoot oil" used to be made, like cows, sheep, and goats.] 
We have listed these only for households headed by "colored" persons.
