Arunah Metcalf (August 15, 1771 - August 15, 1848) was a United States
Representative from New York. Born in 1771, he attended the common schools and moved
from Connecticut to New York, settling in Otsego (now Cooperstown) in 1802. He was
elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Twelfth Congress, holding office from
March 4, 1811 to March 3, 1813 and was a member of the New York State Assembly from
1814 to 1816. He was president of the Otsego County Agricultural Society in 1818 and
was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the New York State Senate in 1819. He
was again a member of the New York State assembly in 1828; in 1848, he died in
Cooperstown.
