Located in the Town of Burlington on Otsego County 16 about three miles from Garrattsville, NY, going toward Burlington Green, NY.
This is an active cemetery, i.e. there are still burials here and there is a Cemetery
Association which oversees the affaìrs of the Cemetery. The physical condition of the Cemetery
is excellent.
Background: Over the years, I have needed to obtain information about persons buried here
but it was not available. The Association has the names of those who purchased the lots but
not who was buried on the lots. NYSHA Library in Cooperstown, NY has only a sketchy and
incomplete list of names. However, the thought of collecting all the data necessary to make a
complete listing of this fairly large cemetery was daunting. But a group of ladies offered to
help and on a hot August day we forged ahead and censused the entire cemetery. Those gathering the data were: Mrs. Ruth (Colburn) Miller, Mrs. Patricia (Colburn) Mahar,
Mrs. Marion (Lasher) Turnbull, Mrs. Nsdine (Douglas) Scrivener, Mrs. Joanne (Webster) Douglas,
Mrs. Virginia (Allen) Schoradt. After collection, the material was sorted, alphabetized (sort of---familes were kept together as much as possible), cross indexed, typed, checked and
rechecked. The following pages are the result: Butternut Valley Cemetery is now recorded for all to use.Virginia A. Schoradt

SPECIAL NOTE - This cemetery listing was converted from typed pages through OCR (Optical
Character Recognition). OCR can save a lot of time typing, but is also prone to misreading
some characters. In this particular situation, semi colons and the letter "y" were a problem,
as were number 4 and the ampersand. I have attempted to review every entry to correct those
situations. However, I may have missed some. You might see an occasional Marv instead of
Mary or "vrs" instead of "yrs," a number 8 could appear where an ampersand should be. If you
happen to spot some obvious problems, please let me know. I have attempted to keep the very
same typewritten format as Ginger Schoradt provided. Spelling is exactly as in the original
list. A great big THANKS to all that worked on the project.
