A History of Oneonta


November 11, 1998 marked the 220th year since the tragic events that took Cherry Valley (then a part of 
Tryon County) by surprise. Walter Butler, Joseph Brant, 500 Iroquois, and 200 Rangers raided Cherry Valley. 
Thirty-two civillians, including women and children, are killed. Sixteen soldiers, along with their commander 
Col. Ichabod Allen, also died. Below are some links to sites that contain information about Cherry Valley and
