SARGEANT/SERGEANT-I am looking for connections to the family of Thomas
Sargeant/Sergeant(my 4x great grandfather)
who settled in Butternuts township on the east side of the Unadilla
River, Parcel 3 which was part of the MIDDLETON/
BEUMONIOR/BOMINEER Patent as early as 1798. The deed was filed in 1809.
Thomas was b. 1770 in BOSTON and also had a twin brother
Samuel that settled across the Unadilla river on ENOCH MARVIN'S land in
Chenango Co in the early 1800's.
Thomas possibly was married first to an Unknown woman. He had 5 children
to my knowledge.
John & James(twins) b. 1802,Lewis b. 1807,Elizabeth b. 1811, Lucy Ann
B. 1813.
He was recorded as marrying MRS SARAH SCISSION/SISSON DEFOREST in 1826. I
do not believe her to be the mother
of Thomas's Children. I think Sarah was married first to a Deforest that
lived in Otsego(possibly PITTSFIELD).
There was a Capt ABEL DEFOREST & a GILES DEFOREST LISTED IN
PITTSFIELD in the 1800 census.
Who was Thomas's first wife and what religion were they. I have found
several lines that were BAPTIST, METHODISTS, and
PRESBYTERIAN'S. He was said to have spent a year in Schoharie County
first. I had also seen many lines of Sisson's that
were Quaker's in Otsego in the early 1800's. Can anyone shed a light on
the SARGEANT'S. Many still live in the
Chenango/Otsego area, but they spell the surname Sargent now.
Thomas & Samuel's father was thought to be James. Thank you for any
replies.

After tracking Joseph COON to Plainfield Twp. in Otsego County, I need
confirmation that the family on the 1800 federal census
is mine. Joseph was married to Polly Prosser. They had 13 children.
Their son Peter was born in 1795, and he married a Sylvia Coon, probably
a cousin.I need to find the birthdates of Joseph and Polly Coon, and it
is to be hoped, their birthplace as well. If anyone has connection to
the above COON family, please email me, or write to me at 9101 Ball St.,
Plymouth, MI 48170-4003. All queries acknowledged. Thank you.

Searching for information on John DENSMORE, also spelled DUNSMOOR,
DUNSMORE, DINSMORE. He was born March 11, 1741/42 in Worcester Co. MA,
and
he married Elizabeth AMOS, April 15, 1765, Hardwick, MA. Children
were Amos, John Jr., Eliphalet, Tryphosa, Susan, and Sophia. Daughter
Susan married Isaac SMITH, March 13, 1796, in MA. He purchased
land from William Cooper (land part of the Schuyler Patent) in
1792, with James Tran(?) and James Nicholls, and came to the Richfield
area abouth 1796. There is a tombstone in a small cemetery in a
cornfield - once the Colwell Farm - which reads "In memory of
Betsy Dunsmoor, consort of John Dunsmoor, who departed his life
October 13, 1803 in the sixty-first year of her age." The placement
of the stone is odd, and it looks like it has been moved. I wonder
if this is a memorial stone and not really a tombstone. I'd love
to share information.
