Probate of the Last will and Testament of Caleb Brown Deceased Page 315 The people of the State of New York by the Grace of God Free and
Independent to all to whom these presents Shall come or may
concern Send Greeting Knowing that at Otsego in the County of Otsego on the
third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and fifteen before Ambrose L Jordon Esquire
Surrogate of our said County the Last will and testament of
Caleb Brown deceased (a copy whereof hereunto annexed) as
proved and is now approved and allowed of by us and the said
Deceased Having whilst he lived and at the time of of his
death Goods chattels or credits within this State by means
whereof the proving and registering the said Will and the
granting Administration of all and singular the said good
chattels and credits and also the auditing allowing and final
discharging the account thereof doth belong unto us, the
administration of all and singular the goods chattels and
credits of the said deceased and concerning this will is
granted unto Oliver Brown Henry Clark Junior and Levi
Carpenter Junior Executors in the said will named they having
first duly sworn will and faithfully to administer the same
and to make and Exhibit a true and perfect Inventory of all
and Singular the said goods chattels and credits and also to
secure a just and true account thereof when there unto
required. Witness Ambrose L. Jordan Esquire Surrogate of the
said County at Otsego aforesaid the third day of October in
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen
and of our Independence the fortieth
The Last Will and Testament of Caleb Brown of the Town of
Plainfield in the County of Otsego and State of New York. I
Caleb Brown considering the uncertainty of this mortal life
and being of sound memory (Blessed be Almighty God for the
same) Do make and publish Pg 316 this my last will and testament in the manner following that is
to say I give and bequeath unto Anna my wife one third part
of all my real estate during her natural life and after her
decease I give and bequeath her right of dower to thirteen
acres & half of land bounded as follows (viz) beginning at
the blacksmiths shop now occupied by Isaiah Robinson thence
easterly along the highway to Solomon Perry’s land, thence
westerly on the line of Solomon Perry’s land to the Unadilla
river, thence on the line between lot number twenty two and
twenty from the East to the West Branch of the Unadilla River
thence down said west Brach to the Intersection of the East
and West Branches of said River. Thence up the East Branch
of said River opposite to the North East Corner of Lands
owned by the said Isaiah Robinson thence to the place of
beginning to my two sons Lodowick and Samuel the lands
aforesaid Including the dwelling house in which I now reside
together with the grist mill oil mill saw mill &
I give and bequeath unto my two sons Lodwich and Samuel all
the land heretofore described of which they are to have one
third part after the decease of my widow I order the residue
sum? Of my real Estate to be sold for the purpose of paying
my Just credits after the appropriation of my personal Estate
for that purpose I having heretofore given to my son Caleb
Brown Junior a farm & therefore no provision is made for him
in this my last will and testament. I give and bequeath unto
my Daughter Deborah Spicer the wife of Edward Spicer Esquire
a certain note executed by the said Edward Spicer to me on
the first day of August 181? For the sum of four Pg 317 hundred and four dollars payable two years after date I give and
bequeath unto my Daughter Anna Crumb the wife of John W [or
N] Crumb a certain Bond Executed by the said John W [or N]
Crumb to me on the Sixth day of January A 1804 concentower?
For the persmine? Of four hundred twenty six dollars and
sixty five cents
I give and bequeath unto my four daughters Dolly Nancy Betsy
and Polly Each three hundred Dollars to be paid by my two
sons Lodwick and Samuel and I hereby make the real Estate
given the said Lodwick and Samuel in this my Last Will and
testament a bin? For the payment of the Legacies aforesaid
the Legacies to be paid as follows viz. To Dolly being the
wife of Jos. [or Jess] Gardner within six years of after my
decease which sum? To be for the Sole use and benefit of her
heirs the residue of the Legacies to be paid to my daughters
Nancy Betsy and Polly when the arrive to the age of twenty
six years respectively
I give and bequeath unto the heirs of Nathan W. Brown lots of
the Town of Plainfield deserid? Eighty acres of Land now
occupied by the heirs of the deceased.
I give and bequeath unto Anna [or Anne or Amee] Baily the
wife of Thomas Baily and to her heirs forty acres of land
situated in the Town of Plainfield aforesaid being land now
occupied by the above named Thomas Bailey
And I do hereby constitute ordain and appoint Oliver Brown
and Henry Clark Junior of the Town of Brookfield in the
county of Madison and Levi Carpenter Junior of the
Bridgewater in the County of Oneida the only Executors of
this my last will and Testament Pg 318 And I hereby disallow revoke and disannul all and any other
former Wills Legacies testaments and Executions by me in any
wise? before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and
confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament
In Witness whereof I the said Caleb Brown have hereunto set
my hand and seal this twenty second day of September in the
year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifteen
Signed Sealed Published and acclaimed by the above named
Caleb Brown to be his last Will and testament in the presence
of us who have hereunto Subscribed our names as witnesses in
the presence of the testator

Otsego County Fs. Be it remembered that on the third day of
October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred
and fifteen personally appeared before me Ambrose L. Jordan
Esquire Surrogate of the said County of Otsego Ambrose Coats
one of the subscribing Witnesses to the Will of Caleb Brown
deceased late of the town of Plainfield in the said County
being duly sworn declared that he did see the late Caleb
Brown seal and Execute this written Instrument (of which the
annexed is a copy) purporting to be the last will and
testament of the said Caleb Brown having date the twenty
second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and fifteen and heard him publish and acclaim
the same as and For his last will and testament that at
thirteen? Thereof he the said Caleb Brown was of sound
disposing mind and memory Pg 319 To the best of the knowledge and belief of the said Ambrose Coats
legho? Together with Erastus Eaton and John Williams the
other witnesses to the said Will Sincerely Subscribed their
hands and names to the said will as witnesses thereunto in
the presence of the testator and of each other
Otsego County fs. Be it also remembered there on the third
day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight
hundred fifteen Oliver Brown Henry Clark Junior and Levi
Carpenter Junior Executors named in the Last Will by a
testament of the said Caleb Brown late of the town of
Plainfield in said County deceased likewise appeared before
me the said Surrogate and were duly sworn to the true
Execution and performance of the said will by their taking
the oath of an Executor as by law appointed AL Jordan Surrogate
