WILL OF PELATIAH BLISS:

Be it remembered that heretofore, to wit, on the sixth day of December in the year one
thousand eight hundred and fifty two, Jedadiah P. Sill, sole executor of the last will
and testament of Pelatiah Bliss, late of the town of Exeter, in the County of Otsego,
deceased, appeared in open court before the Surrogate of the County of Otsego and made
application to have the said last will and testament, which relates to both real and
personal estate, proved; and on such application the Surrogate did ascertain by
satisfactory evidence who were the widow, heirs, and next of kin of the said testator
and their respective residences; and one of the said heirs appearing to be a minor a
special guardian was appointed to take care of his interests in the matter of proving
the said will and therupon the said Surrogate did issue a citation in due form of law
directed to the said widow heirs next of kin and special guardian requiring them to
appear before the said Surrogate at his office in Cooperstown in said County on the
twenty first day of January. Then next to attend the probate of the said will and
afterward to wit on the said twenty first day of January satisfactory evidence by
affidavit was produced and presented to said Surrogate of the service of the said
citation in the mode prescribed by law and on that day the hearing of the said matter
was duly adjourned and continued and on the said last mentioned day and on divers other
days to which the hearing of this matter was duly adjourned and continued such
procedings were had that the Surrogate took the proof of the said last will and testament;
and on the twenty sixth day of February in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty
three, he adjudged and decreed the said will to be a valid will of real and personal
estate which said last will and testament and proofs are as follows, that is to say.

WILL


In the name of God Amen. I Peltiah Bliss of the town of Exeter, in the County of Otsego
and State of New York, of the age of seventy eight years and being of sound mind and
memory do make, publish, and declare this my last will and testament in manner following.
That is to say: First I give and bequeath to my wife Candis Bliss the use of all my
certain farm of about two hundred acres upon which I now live, situated in said town of
Exeter, together with the use of all my personal property of every name and nature that
shall remain after the payment of the several legacies herein after mentioned during her
natural life; to be accepted and received in lieu of dower. Second I give and bequeath to
my sons Gilbert Bliss, John Bliss, and Lathrop Bliss each the sum of two hundred and
fifty dollaras which I direct my executor to pay out of the proceeds of my estate within
one year after my decease. Third I give and bequeath unto my son Seth L. Bliss the sum of
two hundred and thirty dollars which I direct my executor to pay out of the proceeds of my
estate within one year after my decease. Fourth I give and devise to my son James Bliss all
that certain tract or parcel of land situate in the town of Otsego in the County of Otsego
for a description of which reference may be had to a deed from H.G. Herkimer to me, Peltiah
Bliss, together with all the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any
wise appertaining to have and to hold the premises above described to the said James Bliss,
his heirs and assigns forever and I also give and bequeath to my said son James Bliss the
sum of one hundred and eighty dollars in money to be paid to him by my executor within one
year after my decease, out of my estate. Fifth I give and devise to my daughter Hannah
Plumb all that tract or parcel of land situate in the town of Exeter in the county of
Otsego aforesaid containing one hal(half)an acre of land for a description of which
reference may be had to a deed from David Sprague to me, Peltiah Bliss, of said premises
together with all the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in any wise
appertaining, to have and to hold the premises above described to the said Hannah Plumb
her heirs and assigns forever and I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Hannah
Plumb the sum of two hundred dollars in money to be paid to her out of my estate by my
executor within one year after my decease. Sixth I give and bequeath to my daughter Eliza
Duel the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars to be paid out of my estate by my executor
within one year after my decease. Seventh I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue
and remainder of all my real estate of every name and nature whatsoever (reserving the
use therof to my wife during her life in lieu of her dower, as aforesaid) together with
all the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining
and all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what
name or kind soever(reserving the use thereof to my wife during her life in lieu of dower,
as aforesaid) to my son Theodore Bliss and in case of the decease of my said wife Candis
Bliss before the said Theodore shall arrive at the age of twenty one years or in case
she shall refuse to accept of the above provision in lieu of dower, then and in that case,
the said residue and remainder is to be held in trust for my said son Theodore by my
executor till he shall arrive at such age at which time he shall succeed to the same and
the use thereof that shall have accumulated during his minority; and lastly I hereby
appoint Jedediah P. Sill of the town of Exeter, in said county of Otsego, sole
executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of August, in
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifyy two.

The above instrument consisting of one sheet was at the date thereof signed, sealed,
published and declared by the said Pelatiah Bliss as and for his last will and testament
in presence of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each
other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto
