Will of Samuel Doolittle


In the name of God Amen. I Samuel Doolittle of Springfield, in the County of Otsego and State of New York being weak in body but sound in mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath unto my two sons Elijah Doolittle and John Doolittle the sum of one hundred dollars each to be paid to them as herein after directed. I also give and Divise unto my son Samuel Doolittle his heirs and assigns whom I hereby appoint my sole Executor, all the Messuage or tenements situate in the town of Richfield in the County of Otsego aforesaid, whereon Doctor James L. Palmer now resides which said Gift and Devise [?] is in trust to him my said Executor on the following express conditions that is to say I do hereby will and order that my said Executor _____ [?] as soon as may be convenient advisable and to advantage after my decease sell and dispose of the aforesaid premises, together with all my other freehold estate whatsoever which I hereby give and devise to him my said Son Samuel Doolittle on the same express condition as aforesaid and out of the money or avails therefrom arising Firstly to pay and discharge all my lawful debts and Secondly to pay the said several Legacies or sums of money mentioned as aforesaid. Another residue of my said estate I do hereby will and order that it be disposed of to the best possible advantage for the profit comfort and maintainance of my wife during her natural life time and my several children that are now under age -- and at her decease if it shall so happen that any of my said children should be sickly or otherwise incapable of maintaining themselves that then used in their care or reasonable Sum shall be given and provided for their maintainance [and] another residue of my said estate if any there be to be divided equally among my several heirs. And lastly as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind and nature soever I give and bequeath them unto my said beloved wife Doolittle In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen Samuel Doolittle L.S.
