This is sort of an odd query. My 3XGreat Grandfather (William S. Oder,
Wagonmaker) was visiting Lawrence County, specifically Coal Grove, on
business in 1852. While there he contracted Cholera and died. Is it
possible that any record was made of this event. i.e. newpaper accounts,
police records, etc. His home was Greenup County, Ky., it was also
possible that he had relocated to Coal Grove. The really odd thing is
that the death was recorded in Campbell Cty, Ky..

I am actively seeking the parents of Thomas Wray b.15 Dec 1776, Gallia
Co., Ohio; d. 17 Oct 1843, Gallia Co., Ohio. Thomas married Rachel Neal
on 26 Sep 1802 in Monroe Co., WV. They moved to the Gallia/Lawrence Co.,
Ohio area approximately 1820. Thomas had at least one proven brother,
John Wray b.ca. 1775, Virginia and d. 1862 in Christian Co., MO. John
married Sarah McGlammery in 1799 in Greenbrier (later became Monroe Co.)
Co., WV. John moved to Lawrence Co., Ohio about 1815, later to Vermillion
Co., IL about 1829 then to Missouri about 1832. In 1834 he married Nany
(Kyle) Rapp (widow of Daniel Rapp) in Greene Co., MO. Thomas may have had
another brother named Edmond or Edward. Possibility of more siblings.
We have a oteamoe of experienced researchers that has gathered a great
deal of data on this family and others with the surname Wray - often
spelled Ray - and sometimes Wrey, Rae, Rea & Reah. We have seen the
name spelled differently within the same document.
There is strong evidence that Thomas & John were originally from
Buckingham/Amherst counties in Virginia. Of particular interest is Moses
Ray who left a will in 1766, Amherst Co., Virginia. His property was
originally purchased in Albemarle Co., the part which later became
Amherst Co. Moses had sons, Moses Jr. (Later moved to Georgia), William
(later moved to Georgia), & Thomas (whereabouts unknown).
Any information on Thomas, John and the family of Moses Ray will be most
welcome. Because the Buckingham County Courthouse burned in 1869, we must
rely on more personal records, i.e., journals, family bibles, letters,
etc.
Please contact me, Loraine Kerns, via e-mail at kernsk-2@idt.net.
Thank you!.

I am trying to find the name of a Children's Home in the Lawrence
County area in mid to late 1800's. The name may have been
Simmerings. My grandmother lived or worked at this facility.
Her name was Anna Wilhemina Hoberg. Her parents were Herman
Hoberg and Johanna Siefert Hoberg. She married Frank Neu in 1896.
Frank Neu's parents were Joseph Neu and Barbara Werner Neu. They
lived in the Poak Patch area from 1871 until Joseph's death in
1878. He worked for the Clinton Furnace Co. among others. The
log home was still standing in 1930's but I'm not sure if it
still is. ANY information welcomed..

I'm interested in any information on TAGG, William or James. William is
my g-grandfather married to Sarah Burkhamer of Doylestown, OH (Wayne
County). After 1870 there is no record of William. I believe James was
his brother and he may have left his wife and children and moved to be
with his brother who resided in Lawrence County (Ironton?). This would
be about 1870 to 1880. Any and all responses are appreciated. Thank
you.

Idona Compliment
I am researching the Compliman/Compliment family from Lawrence County.
The first Compliman that I can find is Henry Compliman who was born in
Germany around 1800. His wife Mary Rosenard (b. 1806) was born in
Germany as well. His son Benjamin is listed in the 1870 as Compliman and
in the 1900 census as Compliment. To date, I have not found a record of
an official name change for this family. If anyone has any information
as to where in Germany this family came from and when the name change
took place, I would appreciate hearing from you. .
