The Barb Family

The name "Barb" means a beard, growth of hair on the chin, lips, and adjacent parts of the human face, chiefly of male adults. In France, "Barbe" was in Lorraine near the German border. Probably some families moved to Germany and adopted German form "Bart" or compromised and dropped the "e" to "Barb." This particular Barb family probably lived in Metz, Lorraine (France) near the German border. [B-610]
