JEREMIAH & RUTH (ALBRO) SWEET


1. Jeremiah Sweet was born about 1676 to John and Elizabeth Sweet. He was the last named of the "little" sons in his father's will. He married Ruth Albro, daughter of Samuel & Isabel (Lawton) Albro. She was mentioned in the will of her aunt, Ruth Lawton Wodell, as Ruth Sweet daughter of sister Isabel Albro.  Jeremiah Sweet of Kingstown, RI was involved in several land transactions between 1713 and 1721.  He then acquired land in Westerly , RI which he sold March 2, 1728 calling himself "of Westerly". He returned to North Kingstown where he became a freeman May 4, 1736.  His land was in the section that became Exeter, RI and he died there about June 1760.  His will was dated July 30, 1756 and proved July 8, 1760.  His wife, Ruth, was not mentioned in his will.

2. Samuel Sweet was named first in his father's will.  His will was dated March 24, 1761 and proved June 16, 1761 in Exeter, RI; it mentions his wife named Sarah.

3. John Sweet became a freeman of North Kingstown, RI May 2, 1738. His will was dated February 7, 1756 and proved May 15, 1756 in Exeter, RI. He married February 5, 1743/4 Abigail Eldred in Exeter, RI . She married again by March 18, 1760, Hezekiah Hoar.

21. George, b. Nov. 28, 1748 in Exeter, RI; d. June 10, 1813 in Hancock, MA; m. after February 18, 1774 Dorcas Hadsall.  He served in the Berkshire Co. Militia in 1777.
22. Elizabeth, b. Jan. 28, 1750 in Exeter, RI; d. July 2, 1833 in Berkshire Co., MA; m(1) May 29, 1771 John Vaughan; m(2) abt 1790 Daniel Galusha.
23. Ruth, b. June 12, 1753 in Exeter, RI; m. January 16, 1775 Benjamin Morey.

4. George Sweet became a freeman of Exeter, RI in May 1756 and served as Justice of the Peace.  He was the executor of his father's will.  He was appointed guardian to the children of his niece, Freelove Sweet.  He was given Letters of Administration on the estate of his brother, Jeremiah, and was appointed guardian to his children.  His will was dated February 12, 1790 and proved February 2, 1796.  He married June 29, 1740 in East Greenwich, RI, Ruth Sweet, daughter of Capt. Benjamin and Susanna (Spencer) Sweet.  Ruth was born May 8, 1720 and was still living on February 12, 1790.  There were numerous land transactions involving George & Ruth Sweet.

5. Ruth Sweet, died after March 25, 1784 when she was named in her husband's will. She married in 1731 Nathaniel Niles in North Kingstown, RI.

8. Jeremiah Sweet, born about 1717 or earlier as he was a freeman of North Kingstown, RI May 2, 1738.  He served on several highway repair crews 1760-1772 in Exeter, RI.  He died intestate shortly before May 10, 1774.  The name of his wife has not been found.  He did not sell any land in Exeter. His brother, George Sweet, was named executor of his estate and guardian to his children.

42. John, b. 1765; d. July 29, 1848 in Williamstown, MA; m(1) Sarah Vaughan #46; m(2) Ruth Vaughan #48, sister of Sarah.  No children.  He is buried in South Williamstown, MA; the grave maked as Rev. War Patriot which may be an error.
43. Susanna, b. 1768; d. September 16, 1846 Brookfield, NY; m. Elijah Moore.


Generation 3

11. Freelove Sweet was born November 1, 1734 in Exeter, RI.  She married about 1754 Henry Sweet, son of Capt. Benjamin and Susanna (Spencer) Sweet, who died in 1756.  She m(2) before November 13, 1759 Edward Crowell of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts Bay Colony.  In November 1765, the Exeter Town Council ordered her and her 2 children removed to Martha's Vineyard, her last legal place of residence. She may have had additional children after 1765.

22. Elizabeth Sweet was born January 28, 1749/50 in Exeter, RI and died July 2, 1833 in Berkshire Co., MA.  She married (1) May 29, 1771 in West Greenwich, RI John Vaughan, son of George and Elizabeth (Bassett) Vaughan.  She married (2) Daniel Galusha about 1790 in Berkshire Co., MA.  This second marriage is known because when her daughter, Ruth, died, Ruth's heirs included a half-brother, Daniel Galusha, of Williamstown, MA.  Elizabeth and Daniel Galusha are buried in South Williamstown.

48. Ruth Vaughan, b. April 11, 1773; d. July 20, 1851 in Williamstown, MA; m. abt. 1841, John Sweet #42.  No children.  Her heirs were listed as: brother John Vaughan, nephew John A. Vaughan, niece Betsey Vaughan & half-brother Daniel Galusha of Williamstown.
49. John Vaughan, b. Sept. 19, 1775; d. after 1849 in VT.
50. Daniel Galusha, b. March 1791 in Berkshire Co., MA.  Wife named Rebecca.

25. Susanna Sweet was born May 17, 1745 in Exeter, RI and was still living in Exeter in 1816.  She married after April 15, 1781 Jeremiah Pendleton, son of John Pendleton.  He died about March 1813.

Known child of Jeremiah and Susanna (Sweet) Pendleton:
51. Freelove Pendleton.  Sept. 15, 1814 the Town Council of Exeter sent her to Warwick, RI to have her child.  She had also lived in "Patuxet".

27. George Sweet was born September 28, 1749 in Exeter, RI and died before April 15, 1781 or had left the Colony.  His wife was Mercy Macguire.  Lt. George Sweet Jr. is listed in the Civil & Military List of RI in Aug. 1774, Oct. 1775 and Dec. 1776.  May 18, 1779 George Sweet Sr. purchased at auction 12 acres which belonged to George Sweet Jr. who passed counterfeit money & left town.

28. Jabez Sweet was born October 9, 1751 in Exeter, RI and died about January 1823 in Brookfield, Madison Co., NY.  He married about 1780 Rachel Pendleton, daughter of John Pendleton.  Rachel was still living March 17, 1814. They sold the last of their property in Exeter on March 9, 1798.

32. Amy Sweet was born January 7, 1762 in Exeter, RI and died June 17, 1846 in Brookfield, Madison Co., NY.  She married before 1790 Thomas Benjamin, son of Jonathan and Margaret Benjamin.

39. Huldah Sweet was born January 29, 1758 in Exeter, RI and died March 16, 1839 in Alfred, Allegany, NY.  She married Edward Green(e), son of Joseph and Margaret (Greenman) Greene about 1778. Edward was a Revolutionary War veteran serving in RI and NY.  Edward & Huldah lived in Petersburg, NY and Brookfield, NY, where he was the first judge of Madison County.  They finally settled in Alfred, NY about 1816. Their descendants usually left the trailing "e" off their name.

41. Ruth Sweet was born March 4, 1762 in Exeter, RI and died August 6, 1841 in Alfred, Allegany, NY. She married soon after July 2, 1785 Silas Benjamin, son of Jonathan and Margaret Benjamin. Silas and Ruth lived for a while in East Greenwich, RI before moving to Brookfield, NY by 1800, and by 1820 they were living in Alfred, NY.

43. Susanna Sweet was born about December 1767 in Exeter, RI and died September 16, 1846 in Brookfield, Madison Co., NY.  She married after May 3, 1795 Elijah Moore, son of Elijah and Jemima (Kingsbury) Moore.

54. Samuel G. Sweet was born about June 13, 1779 in Exeter, RI and died February 17, 1866 in Brookfield, Madison, NY.  He married (1) June 24, 1802 probably in Madison Co., NY Sarah Stetson, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Johnson) Stetson. Sarah was born February 28, 1783 in Hardwick, MA and died in Brookfield, NY March 26, 1851.  Samuel m(2) Mrs. Tryphosa Murdock, widow of A. T. Murdock; she died in Hamilton, NY January 6, 1867.

70. Jeremiah Green was born March 28, 1784 probably in Petersburg, Rensselaer Co., NY and died October 13, 1862 in Hebron, Potter Co., PA.  He married about 1814 in Stephentown, NY Lucy Crandall, daughter of Jasper and Sarah (Carpenter) Crandall.  Lucy was born January 8, 1790 in Stephentown and died August 18, 1872 in Farina, Fayette, IL where her son, William Green, was living.
