Will of Henry Hall, 1716


In the name of God Amen: the first day of november in the yeare of oure Lord one thousand seven Hundered and Sixteen I Henry Hall of the Town of westerly in his majesties Collony of Rhoad Island and plantations In newingland yeoman being very weak in body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God Theirefore: Calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that itt is apointed for men once to dye Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testement that is to say principaly and first of all I give and Recommend to the earth to be buried in a Decentt and christian maner att the discretion of my executorss nothing Doubting but att the general Resurrection I shall Receive the same again by the allmighty Power of God and ass touching such worldly Estate wherewith itt pleased God to bless me in this Life I give demise and dispose of the Same in the following manner and forme

Imprimus I Give and bequeathe to Conststant (sic) hall my Beloved wife all my movable Estate and the whole profit of my Homestede farm untill my Two youngest daughters mary & martha Shall Come to the age of eighteen yeares for the maintaining of the Charge of bringing them up and the rest of my children and after thay my Two youngest daughters Comes to the age of eighteen years ass aforesd my will is that my two Sons william and elisha halls (sic) Shall have my aforesd farm whereon I now dwell the which I give and Bequeath to them theire heires and assigns peacable to injoy forever and also a tract of Land which Lyeth between the above Said farme and the wood River make that whereas the South bound of sd farme is a west line the same line Shall extend westward untill itt Comes to the wood River which Shall make the Southbound of the other Said Tractt of Land and to bound by sd River Westward and northward by the Lands I have given by a Deed of Gift to my Son Henry Halls (sic) and eastward bounded by an highway both sd Tracts of Lands I give to my Two Sons William and Elisha equally to be divided between them allways Excepting the best Rume in my house which I give and bequeath to my wife and also a priveledge of Keeping three Cowes and one Riding beast during my the_ __ne of time of her naturell Life and my Two Sons William and Elisha to take the charge of the Said three Cowes and Riding beast and Keep them well both summer and winter duering the time of their mothers life and also to find her with firewood sufficient for use and To Provide for her yearly and every yeare Twelve Bushalls of good Broad Corne

Item I Give and bequeath to my three Sons James Halls John Halls and Edward halls all the remainder of my Land that I Bought of Capt william Clarke to them theire heires and Assigns to posses and Injoy for ever Equity to be divided between them

Item I give and bequeath to my five daughters Susannah halls Elesabeth Butten Ledia hall mary and martha Halls 325 acores of Land Lying and being in the abovesd Town of Westerly bounded Southerly by the Lands of Daniel Browne on the East by an highway on the north by the Lands of Israel Lewis on the west by the wood River and the Lands of John Lewis which Lands I Give to my aforesd five daughters to them theire heires and assigns for Ever equally to be divided between them all

Item I give to my well beloved wife three good Cows and a Riding beast to be her one and att her owne Disposing and also household stuff nesesary for her house Keeping

Item I Give my Son henery hall and to my daughter Marcy Cotterall five Shillings Each of them to be levied outt of my moveable estate I will that wherass I put? all my movable estate together with the profitt of my homestede farme into the hands of my wife for the bringin up of my children untill the youngest Comes to the age of aighten (sic) yeares as is above written what there Shall be Left then of my moveable estate besides that which I have Given to my wife and debts and Leagasie Payd that the remainder be equally divided amongst my children namely henery Halls Jameshalls John halls edward Halls william Halls Elisha halls susanah halls Elizabeth Butten Ledia halls mary halls & martha halls

Imprimis I doe hereby Constitute make and ordaine my trusty and well beloved friends John Maxson Junr & Joseph Maxson my executors of this my Last Will and Testiment (sic) and I Doe utterly disallow revoake and Dis annul all and every other and former testements Wills bequests and executors by me and any way before named willed and bequeathed Ratifying and Confirming this and Confirming this and no other to be my Lastt Will and Testementt in wittness here of I have hereunto Sitt my hand & Seal the day and yeare within written   Signed Sealed published announced and Delivered by the sd henrey Halls as his Last Will and testement   In presence of

Att a Councell meeting att the house of John Hills in the Towne of Westerly the Twenty second day of Jully 1717: Mr Daniell Browne Mr Samuel Lewis and Mrs Johannah Lewis appeared before the Towne Councell & declared opon (sic) oath being wittnesses to the within mention will that they Saw Henry hall the Subscriber Signe Seale & declare the within mentioned will to be his Lastt will and testement and according to the best of theire understanding he was in his Right mind & memory
Taken before the Councell the 22d Day of Jully 1717
