Rhode Island Reading Room

Extracts From the Diaries of Reverend William Pressey, the Parish Priest of St. John's Church, Ashton, Rhode Island

Jean Ellston wrote, "I inherited diaries dating from 1894 through 1938 (missing 1915) kept by my grandfather who was parish priest of St. John's Church, Ashton, RI during those years. These contain lists of marriages, baptisms, confirmations and funerals of many parishoners attending the church in that community during that time. The information usually contains only the names and dates of the event and little else.... As I understand it, many of the records the church kept were lost, so these diaries might possibly be of help."
