Richmond, Va., Sept 14.  Pneumonia, resulting from physical exhaustion, was assigned today as the cause of the death of William G Dillard, Jr. cotton broker, 32 years old, of Spartanburg, S.C., which occurred at Westbrook sanitarium.  The body was taken in Cross Anchor, S.C., for burial.  Physical exhaustion, it was said, resulted from an illness of several weeks.  Dillard, who served as lieutenant of artillery during the World war, was stricken ill August 24, while attending a meeting of South Carolina department of the AMerican Legion at Florence, the first symptons being severe abdominal pains.  HIs case proved so baffling in hospital authorities at Florence that they decided to send him to Richmond for diagnosis and treatment.  His mother, Mrs. William G Dillard, Sr., and his brother, Douglas Dillard, arrived here from Spartanburg a few hours before his death.  They said that he was apparetly in excellent health and spirits when he left Spartanburg with several friends in an autombile for the Florence convention.  The ease was said to have been one of the most baffling which westbrook isurgeons have encountered in some time.
