Will of JAMES KENNEDY

In the name of God Amen I James Kennedy of the State of South Carolina Union District being in a low and ailing condition yet blessed be God of sound judgment, and memory do constitute and, ordain and appoint this to be my last will and testament and first

of all I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Ann Kennedy my lands and also my four negroes Pat, Cloe, Rachel and Charles to be enjoyed.by her as her natural right during her life or widowhood,and after her death or marriage I will that they be [sold line through] disposed of in the following manner, that is to say My son John Kennedy to have that part of my land that was platted off to him by Saml. Jeffries joining William Mannings land and

that after his mother death or widowhood I will that [he] to have my negro woman named Rachel after his mothers death or marriage also, I will and bequeath to him my negro boy named Tom. Next to my son James Kennedy I will and bequeath that part of my land joining lines with Nathaniel Guyton separated from my other land by a line beginning at a pine on the river a little below the Canoe landing running thence a Straight line to a Chestnut above the lot bars thence to a Chesnut at the cider press and thence a straight course to the old Stil-house and then on until it comes

to his brother John line a Straight course it ran from the Cider

press and thence to Nathaniel Guytons old line, next to my son

Abraham Kennedy I will and bequeath the remainder of my land

lying between his brothers and Robert Corry a land also my negro son John Kennedy to have that part of my land that was platted off to him by Saml. Jeffries joining William Mannings land and that

that after his mother death or widowhood I will that to have my negro woman named Rachel after his mothers death or marriage, also I will and bequeath to him my negro boy named Tom. Next to my son James Kennedy I will and bequeath that part of my land joining lines with Nathaniel Guyton separated from my other land by a line beginning at a pine on the river a little below the Canoe landing running thence a Straight line to a chesnut above the lot bars thence to a Chesnut at the cider press and thence a straight course to the old Stil-house and than on untill it comes to his brother John line a Straight course it ran from the Cider press

and thence to Nathaniel Guytons old line next to my son Abraham Kennedy I will and bequeath the remainder of my land lying between his brothers and Robert Corry land also my negro

boy named Reuben next to my daughter Betsey Guyton I will and

bequeath my Negro Girl named Frankey - next to my daughter

Peggy Guyton I will and bequeath my negro girl named Charlotte

next to my daughter Sally Sandling I will and bequeath my negro

girl named Hiley, next to my son Thomas Kennedy I will and bequeath my negro boy named Davis, next to my daughter Jenny Petty I will and bequeath my negro girl named Wenny- next to my daughter Nancy Kennedy, I will and bequeath my negro girl named Carolin to her to maintain her after her mothers death if she die first to whom I leave her as her guardian next my will is that the increase of all my negro women shall be equally divided amongst my five sons John Henry Thomas James and Abraham Kennedy - The negroes left to my wife I wi1 that at her death or marriage

they be disposed of' in the following manner that is to say what

is remaining of the old Stock to be equally divided amongst my children - the increase of old Stock untill a devide takes place to be devided [sic] after the old womans death to be devided Equally to my five Sons above mentioned and the remainder of my Estate consisting of goods and chattels I willit [sic] goeth to pay my lawful debts and it there is any thing remaining I will that it be Equally divided between my well beloved sons John and Abraham Kennedy unless that that negro given to Nancy would not be consedereda [sic] sufficient support for her during her lifetime to belong to them that would take care of her, Sittle it among yourselves but dont let her nor her mother suffer - I wish Nancy to have her bed and furniture - And last of all I do hereby Constitute and appoint my well-beloved wife Ann Kennedy and my two sons John Kennedy and Abraham Kennedy to be Executors of this my last will and testament signed sealed and published and declared this thirty first day of March in the year of our Lord 1829
