FAMILY NOTES
HUSBAND NOTES: Robert Vincent GALLAWAY
General: Dates of birth, death and marriage are from his father's and his own
Family
Bible records, a copy of which is in my files. He was a prominent circuit
Methodist minister in the Texas hill country. Family information is contained in
an unpublished paper titled "Original Research and Compiled by Samuel Edwin
McCLendon, 2536 Nashville Ave., New New Orleans 15, Louisiana," undated
(probably 1952). p. 13.
Moved to Bosque/Mclennan Co. line in 1851 with his parents.
Lived in the Valley Mills/Bosqueville area before he married.
Served as a soldier in the Civil War as a Confederate from Texas and was wounded
in the hip at the battle of Lookout Mtn (Chickamauga), TN. Sue Norman relates
that he went to Kosciusko where his half-brother, Dr. George W. Gallaway
practiced medicine. G.W. operated on his hip and perhaps saved his live. Sue
Norman
reports that it was said that he walked with a limp thereafter.
DEATH: Tombstone recorded in Bosque County Texas Cemetery Records Vol II, p.
408.
The Oak Grove Cemetery is located south of Walnut Springs, a few hundred yards
east
of 433, at the junction of S.R. 144 and the Iredell road S.R. 927. Robert's
grave is
marked by a medium size marker. It says Rev. R.V. Gallaway and M.A. Gallaway.
Dates are as shown on group sheet.
