PFC Homer D. Darby, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Darby, Mashium, Texas.
Attended Valley Mills High.  Entered Army in 1940, trained at Ft. Warren,
Wyo.  Served in Aleutians.  Awarded Pacific, American Defence Medals and 1
Battle Star.  Discharged in 1945.
 
ALLEN, Bluford Turner, Sr.--Rebecca Allen SMALL
Henry Davis Allen's son and my G-G-Grandfather, served in the Indian War.
From May to July, 1836 he served as Private in Capt. Davenport Latham's Company
of Alabama volunteers.  In addition, Bluford served with the Confederacy
during the Civil War.
 
ALLEN, Charles Birt--Rebecca Allen SMALL
Born in Walnut Springs, Bosque Co., TX on 16 OCT1926 to Alvin ALLEN & Nancy
Anna Bell PACE. During WWII, from 1943 to 1946, Charles served in the United States
Navy. He served as Seaman 1st Class in the Radar Division aboard the ship U.S.
General Mitchil. After his military service, Charles returned to Bosque County
where he still resides today.

ALLEN, Henry Davis--
Rebecca Allen SMALL
On January 18, 1813 Henry Davis Allen, Rhody Allen's son and my G-G-G-Grandfather,
was commissioned Captain in the War of 1812. He served in the Tennessee Militia,
27th Regiment. His regiment was the builder of the road from Columbia, TN to
Mobile, AL which facilitated the movement of troops and supplies to General Andrew
Jackson prior to the Battle of New Orleans in January, 1815.
ALLEN, James Milford--Rebecca Allen SMALL
James Milford Allen, my father, served as Private in the United States Army during
World War II. James was born and raised in Meridian, TX and had his residence
in Meridian during his service with the Army in 1944.
ALLEN, Rhody--Rebecca Allen SMALL
Served in the Revolutionary War.  He served as Private for the Sumner Co. TN
Militia from January 1782 to sometime in 1794. Rhody was given bounty land in
Tennessee for his service during the war.

Navy - W.W.II; Born 12 April 1921; died 21 June 1984
LeRoy was assigned duty with the Naval Patrol Squadron 82 later renamed Bombing
Squadron One Hundred Twenty-Five.  He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation
for outstanding heroism in action against enemy forces in the Atlantic Waters from
January 15 to June 10, 1942 and during the month of April 1943.

Rev. John Wesley Bowden entered the service of the Confederacy on 15 JUL 1861
at Russellville, Pope County, AR.  Rev. Bowden born 6 JUL 1742 in Lawrence Co.,
TN is buried in Meridian, Bosque Co., TX.  He died 26 AUG 1932, a Pioneer
minister of the Methodist-Episcopal Church South. Bowden, John W. Texas Pension

Born Dec 1, 1918 in Meridian, died Dec 18, 2001 in Dallas.  Served in the
US Navy during World War II
BURDETTE, Benjamin Apling--
Gayle Hennington-VAN HORN
Enlisted 26 JUL 1861 as a Pvt., Montgomery, AL for the period of the war. Served in
the Army of Northern Virginia, Co. E, 13th Alabama, Colquitt's Brigade, De Witt's
Division. The 13th Alabama infantry participated in a number of various engagements
including Seige of Yorktown, Battle of Seven Pines, Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill,
Antietam (Sharpsburg), Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville Campaign, and Gettysburg.
On 1 JUL 1863, the first day of the Gettsburg Campaign, Pvt. Burdette was captured
along with 75 other Alabamians as well as Gen. James Archer along Chambersburg
Pike., and was sent to Ft. Delaware Prison, Ft. Delaware, DE. He was released 14
JUN 1865. Shortly after his return to Randolph Co., AL, along with his wife Millie
Elizabeth, moved with their three children to Texas, eventually to Meridian, Bosque
Co., 1881. B.A. Burdette, died 14 SEP 1921, age 86. He is buried in the Meridian
Cemetery. Confederate Pension application # 5966, 10 Feb. 1900.
CADENHEAD, Thomas Sears--
Charlie ROYALL
My ggrandfather, Thomas Sears Cadsenhead applied for and recived his  Confederate
Pension in Bosque Co.  Here is transcription of his application. Thomas Sears
Cadenhead received C.S.A. Pension #00474.  From the Official Application for
Confederate Pension, State of Texas, received Jan. 30, 2000, there is the following
information:  Applied for the pension August, 1898.  Place of application, Iredale,
Bosque Co. TX.  He stated that he had lived in Bosque County since "last December."
(Dec. 1897)  Mailing address, Iredale Post Office. Age, "60 on 10th day of last March."
 Occupation," Farmer, when able to work."  Served in " Company E, in Col. O.N.
Roberts, Texas Reg. Inf."  Property owned at the time of application, "A wagon and
2 mules worth $125.00,  this is all of my worldly goods."  Place of enlistment,
Knoxville, Cherokee County, TX.  Served from 1862 to 1864.  G.E. Walters and R.W.
Turner stated that they knew him in the Army from 1862 to 1864.  Thomas was
discharged Nov. 18, 1862 at Camp Nelson, AR. for medical reasons.  From Discharge
Papers, Library of Congress, Military Archives, Description; 5 feet, 4 inches high,
Dark Complexion, Yellow Eyes, Black Hair, twenty years of age. The application was
approved 22 Sept. 1899 by the County Judge and County Commissioners.  He received
the pension until his death in March, 1904, a period of 5 years. Dates of service on State
Records and Federal Records do not match.  More info might be found at:

Cooke.  Enlisted in a Company of Volunteers commanded by Capt. Talbert that became
known as Company K, 11th  Regiment, Alabama Infantry, Wilcox's Brigade, Anderson's
Division, Longstreet's Corps., Army of Northern Virginia.

Sam wa sborn in Bosque County, TX.   He was a veteran of the Army and Navy and
served during both World War II and the Korean War. For 30 years, he lived in the
Amarillo area and was a member of PRCA. He retired as a state cattle inspector with
the Texas Animal Health Commission and had worked for several ranches in the Texas
Panhandle, including the Waggoner Ranch in Vernon.  Sam died at the age of 72, on
01 APR 2000 in Amarillo, & was buried in Lano East Cemetery, TX.

from McLennan County, Nov. 7th, 1909. John Brown enlisted Sept 12, 1861 in Henderson
County, TX., and served until the close of the war. He was a corporal at the close of the war.
Pension # 18110.  Died at 80 years of age;   Military service: served in the Texas 6th Calvary,
Company I, during the Civil War
