Graveside funeral services for Clarence R.
Petty, 86, of Meridian, were held
Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in the Morgan Cemetery,
the Rev. Bill Schibler officiating.
Petty died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in a Clifton
hospital after an extended
illness. He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Belton, a
son of the late Levi H. and Mary
Jane Cantrell Petty, r. He had lived most of his
life in Bosque County, where he
worked on ranches and cut cedar posts. He served
with the U.S. Marine Corps in
World War II. He was affiliated with the Baptist
Church. Survivors include two
daughters, Virginia Ratliff of Clifton, and
Debbie Caughron of Granbury; two
sons, Russell Petty, Sr. of Meridian, and
Richard Petty of Cranfills Gap; two
sisters, Marthie Renfro of Houston, and Mertel
Hoggett of Rising Star; two
brothers, C.C. Petty of Turnersville, and Levi
Petty of California; 33
grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; 29
great-great-grandchildren; and a
number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
friends. Pallbearers were
Scott Caughron, Russell Petty, Jr., Jimmy
Ratliff, Charles Williams,
Clifton Hinds, and Jeff Ratliff.
Lawson Funeral Home, Meridian, was in charge of
arrangements.
