Rites Pending Here For John F. Sosebee
John F. Sosebee, 73, of 1504 31st Street, died Wednesday
afternoon in St. Mary's hospital in Lubbock, Texas after an extended illness.
The body is at the McDonald Funeral home, where funeral arrangements are pending
the arrival of the relatives.
Born in Bosque County, Texas, Sosebee, a local farmer, had
resided here for nine years. He is survived by his wife, Mary Florence; two
sons, G. W. Sosebee of Ropesville, Texas and A. H. Sosebee of Dallas, Texas; and
two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Woods of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. D.D.
Skipper of Abernathy, Texas.
John Franklin Sosebee (b. March 8, 1881 in Bosque County, Texas;
d. December 22, 1954 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas; m. Mary Florence Wylie
on September 8, 1907 in Bosque County, Texas; Mary Florence Wylie was b. June 8,
1888 in Hope, Hempstead County, Arkansas; d. May 20, 1973 in Lubbock, Lubbock
County, Texas) was the son of one of the pioneers of Bosque County, Texas. His
parents were George Washington and Alice Catherine Pierce Sosebee. The bluff
that is now called Soldier's Bluff should have been named Sosebee's Bluff. No
one knows why it was named Soldier's Bluff when all years previous, the bluff
was known as Sosebee's Bluff. At this time, the family is trying to get a
historical marker placed near the bluff.
