Surnames: BARROW, PRICE, DICUS, ALLISON, NUNLEY

Submitter: James R. Rasco (jrrasco@aol.com)
Date: 22 Jun 2002

Looking for information on LEE C. BARROW and the family of MALICHI DICUS.
LEE C. BARROW was born sometimes between 1855 and 1860 in Mississippi
according to the 1880 and 1900 censuses of Bosque County Texas. He married
Mary or "Mollie" Ann Dicus in Bosque County on July 6, 1879. "Mollie was a
daughter of Malichi Dicus and Elizabeth Nunley. She was born July 8, 1861 in
Wayne County Tennessee and died February 14, 1949 at Glen Rose, Somervell
County Texas. Lee C. and Mollie Barrow had three known children: Thomas C.
Barrow, born about 1880 in Bosque County, Leander Carr Barrow born February
4, 1882 in Bosque County, died February 12, 1956 in Cleburne, Johnson County
Texas, buried in Squaw Creek Cemetery, Rainbow, Somervell County Texas, and
Minnie M. Barrow born about 1891 in Bosque County Texas. Lee C. and Mollie
Barrow are listed in the deed records of Bosque County where they are
buying or selling small tracts of property between the 1880's and the early 1900's.
In 1901, L.C. Barrow transferred a piece of property in Eulogy, Bosque County to
Mollie Barrow and he does not again appear in any Bosque County records that I
have been able to locate. The family story is that Lee C. Barrow left home to return
to Mississippi to settle or inquire about some Barrow property in Mississippi and either died
or was killed somewhere alone the way. I have been unable to locate an estate
settlement for him or a guardianship record for his children. The 1900 census indicates
that Lee C. Barrow was a saleman by trade.
The property he transferred to his wife Mollie in 1901 contained a drugstore.
Mollie sold this same property as a single female in 1904 and she was listed as a widow
in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. Apparently indicating that Lee died sometimes
between 1901 and 1904. Their Children; Thomas C. Barrow married someone named
Lucinda, Leander C. Barrow married Addie Allison, Minnie M. Barrow married
Earl R. Cole. Minnie apparently died not long after her marriage. Sometimes in the
early 1920's, Mollie married her second husband, a widower named John T. Price.
They resided in the town of Glen Rose in Somervell County. John may have originally
been from Granbury, Hood County Texas. He was born October 15, 1863 and
died March 20, 1946. Mollie and her two sons, Thomas C. Barrow and Leander
C. Barrow were residing in Somervell County when Mollie died. Mollie had been
declaired by the Somervell Courts to be "A person of unsound mind" and her son Thomas
was appoined her guardian and administrator of her estate. After her death, Thomas
stayed in Somervell County untill about the end of 1949 and then moved to some
unknown place, possibly Bowie County Texas.  Leander C. Barrow continued to reside
in Glen Rose until his death in 1956. Mollie (Dicus) Barrow Price
was buried at the Andrew's Chapel (Brazos Point) cemetery in Bosque County.
Her grave was apprently unmarked and is now lost. I am seeking additional
information on Lee Barrow. MALICHI DICUS was born in Tennessee about 1825.
He married Elizabeth Nunley about 1856. They moved to Bosque County
Texas before 1880. They had three known children: A daughter named Tennessee
Dicus born about 1857, Mary Ann or Mollie Ann Dicus (see above), and Malichi
born 15 Nov. 1866, died 8 March 1885. The son Malichi is buried in the Brazos Point
Cemetery and has a very weather damaged headstone. I have been unable to determing
what happened to Malichi and Elizabeth Dicus after 1880. Did they die or did they
relocte to some other county? Any help would be appreciated.
