E.H. Carter
Ebenezer
“Ebner” Hezekiah Carter, a son of David and Elizabeth Walker Carter, was born
about 1818 in Wayne County Tennessee. He married Rebecca Rice, a daughter of
Laban (1785-1852) and Elizabeth Bayless Rice, born about 1826 in Alabama. E.H.
and Rebecca Carter had at least three children:
1.
David M. Carter, born about 1847, died before 1870 in Texas.
2.
Laban Rice Carter; born September 14, 1848, in Texas; died October 16, 1898, in
Lee County, Texas. Laban married Mary Ann Boswell, born July 20, 1851, in
Burleson County, died November 8, 1940, in Williamson County, Texas; a daughter
of Ulysus Wilkerson Boswell (Nov.11, 1815-March 8, 1863). Laban and Mary are
reported to have had eight children: Ira Jefferson, Annette “Nettie” May, Joseph
Walker, Edna Elizabeth, Lillie Bertha, David McCollum, Alfonso “Al”, and Ibra
Vernon Carter (1887-1906). Laban, his wife Mary, and her father Ulysus are
buried in the Guthrie Cemetery in Lee County, Texas.

Lucy E. Carter; born May 21, 1851, in Burleson County, Texas; died July 22,
1894, in Burleson Co., TX. Lucy was the second wife of James Robert Pollock,
born March 20, 1845, a Civil War Veteran; died April 4, 1938; buried in Oakwood
Cemetery in Navarro County, Texas, Lucy is buried in the Elizabeth Chapel
Cemetery in Burleson Co., TX. Martha E. Young, the first wife of James R.
Pollock, was born October 2, 1848 in Alabama; died January 11, 1878; and buried
in the Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.
Ebenezer H.
Carter came to Texas in September 1841 with his sister Mary Jane Carter, born
April 2, 1820, in Wayne County, Tennessee. Mary Jane Carter married in Tennessee
before 1840 to Alfred Young Lothlen; born May 4, 1817, in Wayne Co., TN; died
June 16, 1894, in Lee Co., TX; buried in the Guthrie Cemetery. Alfred and Mary
had at least six children;

Martha Louticia Lothlen; born July 30, 1840, in Wayne Co.TN; married James
Madison Rouse on January 18, 1855, in Burleson Co., TX; died July 2, 1904
in Lee Co., TX ; and buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Milam County, Texas.
James Monroe Rouse was born in King and Queen County, Virginia, and died in 1912
in Milam Co., TX. He is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Milam Co., TX. James
and Martha had fourteen children all born in Burleson County, Texas.

Ann Elizabeth “Betty” Lothlen; born July 12, 1842, in Wayne Co., TN; married
August 1, 1865, in Coryell Co., TX to Thomas Jefferson Moore; died in 1919 in
Lee Co., TX; buried in Tanglewood, Lee Co., TX. Thomas J. Moore; born November
18, 1830; died February 2, 1882; buried in the Guthrie Cemetery in Lee Co., TX.

David Young Lothlen; born April 2, 1848, in Wayne Co., TN; died October 15,
1866, in Lexington, Texas.

Mary Jane Lothlen; born April 12, 1852, in Burleson County, Texas; married May
15, 1872, in Lexington, Texas to Samuel H. Landis; died September 19, 1877, in
Coryell County, Texas; buried in the Gatesville City Cemetery in Coryell Co., TX

John Riley Lothlen; born April 26, 1854, in Burleson Co., TX; married December
25, 1879, in Lee Co., TX to Lucy Annie Griffin (1857-1945); and died August 4,
1917, in Williamson Co., TX. John and Lucy are buried in the Taylor City
Cemetery in Williamson Co., TX.

Lucy Saphronia Lothlen; born January 10, 1858, in Coryell Co., TX; Married
January 15, 1875, in Lee Co., TX to Edward Hamilton Landis; died January 7,
1908, in Otero County, New Mexico; and buried in the Monte Vista Cemetery in
Otero Co., NM. Edward Hamilton Landis; born February 8, 1850, in Cape Girardeau
County, Missouri, a son of Jacob and Luann Jenkins Landis; died March 13, 1940,
in Hamilton County, Texas; and buried in Gentrys Mill Cemetery in Hamilton Co.,
TX.
