CLEMENT

Arthur E. Clement received a Conditional Land Certificate for 320 acres on August 1, 1842 from the Milam County Land Board of the Republic of Texas. The Certificate was witnessed by John W. Porter and Joseph A. Ivy.

A.E. Clement, a male, age 27, farmer, born in New York; with S.C. Clement, age 23 female born in New York; Francis Clement, age 7, female, born in Texas; C. Clement, age 5, female, born in Texas; and Lucy Clement, age 1, female, born in Texas, were living in Washington County, Texas on the October 1, 1850, Federal Census.

On July 20, 1860, A.E. Clement, age 36, male, born in New York; S.J. Clement, age 34, female, born in New York; Frances Clement, age 17, female, born in Texas; Mary Clement, age 14, female, born in Texas; Lucy Clement, age 10, female, born in Texas; Albert Clement, age 8, male born in Texas; Henry Clement, age 6, male, born in Texas; Emma Clement, age 4, female, born in Texas; and Cassitola Clement, age 2, female, born in Texas were enumerated in Burleson County, Texas. They received their mail at the Brazos Bottom Post Office in Burleson County.

Mr. J.D. Holmes married Lucy H. Clement on June 26, 1870, in Washington County, Texas and they were living in Burleson County during the 1870 Census. On June 14, 1870, Elberta Clement, age 49, a white male born in New York; Sarah J. Clement, age 48, a white female born in New York; Albert Clement, age 19, a white male born in Texas; Henry H. Clement, age 17, a white male born in Texas; Robert Clement, age 6, a white male born in Texas; Cyrus, age 4, a white male born in Texas; and Jerome B. Clement, age 2, a white male born in Texas, were living in Burleson County and receiving mail at Independence, Washington County, Texas.

On June 25, 1880, Albert Clement, age 59, a white male born in New York; his wife Sarah Clement, age 55, a white female born in New York; their son Robert Clement, age 16, a white male born in Texas; their son Cyrus Clement, age 14, a white male born in Texas; and their son Jerome Clement, age 12, a white male born in Texas, were living in dwelling # 185 in Burleson County. 

Living in dwelling # 186 was Henry Clement, age 25, a white male born in Texas; his wife Flora Clement, age 20, a white female born in Mississippi; their daughter Alice Clement, age 3,a white female born in Texas; their son Henry Clement, age 2, a white male born in Texas; and their son Willie, age six months, a white male born in January 1880 in Texas.

Mrs. S. J. Clement filed for a Civil War Pension on the military service of A.E. Clement, but it was rejected. On June 8, 1900, Sarah H. Clement, age 67, a female born in May 1833 in New Hampshire, was living in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. 

Sarah Jane Clement, born in 1828, died in 1911, and is buried in Dry Branch Cemetery in Kerr County, Texas.

On June 26, 1900, Robert G. Clement, a white male born in December 1868 in Texas, his wife Olive E. Clement, born in February 1873 in Texas, and their daughter Marie Clement, born in May 1900 in Texas, were living in Kerr County, Texas. Robert G. Clement married Olive Elizabeth Middleton on June 15, 1893, in Lubbock, Texas. R.G. Clement received a Land Patent dated February 24, 1908, for 160 acres in Kerr County, Texas. In the 1910 Census of Kerr County, Texas, Cyrus H. Clement and Jerome B. Clement were living together in Kerr County, Texas. Mr. C.H. Clement, born March 28, 1867, in Texas, died August 11, 1929, in Kerr County, Texas, and is buried in the Dry Branch Cemetery in Kerr County. Jerome B. Clement, born May 8, 1868, died June 16, 1946, and is buried in Sun Set Cemetery in Kerr County, Texas.

A.E. (Arthur, Elbert, or Albert) Clement immigrated to the Republic of Texas before August 1842. His land grant was from Milam County but he was living in Washington County in the 1850 Census. The Old San Antonio Road (OSR) was the boundary between Milam County and Washington County. When Burleson County was organized in 1846, the portion of Washington County between OSR and Yegua Creek became the southern part of Burleson County. The Clement Graveyard is located in that area, northwest of Clay off of Burleson County Road 434. A. E. Clement and one or more of his children may be buried there in now lost graves.
