Bird, Lewis, Parker


Nathan Bird, born about 1833 in Coahuila y Texas, Mexico, was a son of Thomas N. and Nancy Jane Bird. Thomas N. Bird was a son of William Bird of Tennessee and a brother of Texas Ranger Captain John Bird. Nathan Bird was numerated with Thomas Jefferson Bird and family in the 1850 Census of Austin County, Texas. Nathan joined the Dove Baptist Church in Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas in October 1852, by letter.Nathan Bird and Miranda Ellen Blanchet were married on February 23, 1854, in Burleson County, Texas. Nathan and Miranda had two daughters, Mary Jane Bird and Sarah Elizabeth Bird, born before 1857. Miranda Ellen Blanchet Bird joined the Dove Baptist Church in Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas in August 1854, and died September 17, 1856, in Burleson County.

Nathan Bird married Sarah Ann Lewis on December 18, 1856, in Burleson County, Texas. Sarah Ann Lewis was born January 20, 1840, in Johnson County, Arkansas, the first child of George Rex Lewis and Irene Ryan Lewis. When she was four or five years old, her father moved his family to Oregon but returned to Johnson County, Arkansas after about two years. Sarah Ann Lewis was twelve years old when the Lewis family moved to Burleson County, Texas. During their short marriage, Nathan and Sarah did not have a child. Nathan Bird died December 26, 1857, in Burleson County, Texas of pneumonia. Sarah Ann Lewis Bird, surviving wife of Nathan Bird, declined to be the Administrator of Nathan Bird’s estate and the Burleson County Court appointed Landry Shoemaker the Administrator. Nathan had bought livestock from T.J. Bird in April 1856 and in March 1857. On November 26, 1857, Nathan Bird and T.J. Bird signed a promissory note of $54.50 to A.P. Manley for medical services, for Nathan in his last illness. Some who bought estate items in 1858 were: J.S. Ryan, William P. Bird, George W. Randolph, George R. Lewis, William Ryan, William I. Albright, and John L. Newcomb. In the Burleson County Court Term of March 1858, Elizabeth Randolph was appointed guardian of the minor heirs of Nathan Bird, Mary Jane Bird and Sarah Elizabeth Bird. On July 27, 1868, Elizabeth Randolph represented herself to the Burleson County Court as the Grandmother of Mary Jane and Sarah Elizabeth Bird. [Was Miranda Ellen Blanchet a daughter of Elizabeth Randolph?] Sarah Ann Lewis Bird’s mark and brand is recorded in a very old book dating back to 1840 in the Burleson County Clerk’s Office.

Sarah Ann Lewis Bird and George W. Parker were united in marriage on January 8, 1861, in Burleson County, Texas. George W. Parker was reported to have been born about 1838 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. George and Sarah Ann Parker had one child, a son, John F. Parker who was born January 15, 1865, in Burleson County, Texas. During the Fall Term of 1866, of the Burleson County Court, Sarah Ann Parker filed for divorce from George W. Parker. Sarah Ann Lewis Bird Parker died March 26, 1868, in Burleson County, Texas and was buried near her father in the Providence Cemetery in Burleson County. George W. Parker married Melissa Ann Morrison on April 25, 1868, in Brazos County, Texas. George and Melissa had a daughter Zula and a son Taswell Wiley Parker.
John F. Parker was living with his grandmother, Irene Ryan Lewis, in 1880. In 1891, John Ryan Lewis sold 640 acres in Nolan County, Texas to John F. Parker. George Parker gained a Deed of Trust from John R. Lewis in Nolan County, Texas during 1901. In the Sweetwater Cemetery in Nolan County, Texas are two stones for children of John F. and Sarah Ann Ryan Parker: Allie Parker, born November 20, 1892, and died October 12, 1901; and an infant daughter who was born and died October 26, 1902.
Some Bits and Pieces:
1.     George W. Parker served in Company G of the Second Texas Infantry, CSA, from Burleson County during the Civil War.
2.     According to Roots Web Message Boards – Burleson County, Texas: Henry and Nancy Parker had a son George Washington Parker. Henry and Nancy Parker settled in Milam County, Texas which joins Burleson County on its north.

3.     James M. Haddox married Sarah Elizabeth Bird on August 19, 1875, in Burleson County, Texas
