Jane Reed

Jane Reed was born March 21, 1821, in Alabama, a daughter of Jacob and Matilda
Gage Reed. She was brought to Coahuila y Texas in May 1831 by her parents. Her
marriage to James W. Harvey on October 15, 1837, in the Republic of Texas is
recorded in Brenham, Washington County, Texas. James and Jane are known to have
had six children. James W. Harvey died in Burleson County, Texas between 1850
and 1856.
Mrs. Jane Reed married John Oldham, a widower, on January 12, 1856, in Burleson
County, Texas. John Oldham and his first wife Mary Polly Tarpley had children.
Mrs. Mary Oldham had also died between 1850 and 1856 in Burleson County, Texas.
The graves of James W. Harvey and Mrs. Mary Polly Oldham have not been
identified but they should have been early burials in the Porters Chapel
Cemetery in north west Burleson County. Jane and John had a son Edmond Harvey
Oldham.
Jane Reed Harvey Oldham’s known children are:

Mary Elizabeth Harvey was born April 13, 1838 in Milam District of the Republic
of Texas. She married Eleazor Block Barker on February 2, 1857, in Williamson
County, Texas. E.B. Barker was born January 25, 1835, in Bastrop District of
Coahuila y Texas, Mexico. Mary and E.B. had at least ten children: Robert Edgar
(1858-1938; James Euphrates (1860-1952); John Thomas (1862-1938); Rufus
Lafayette (1862-1930); Sallie Appleton Barker Darlington (1864-1953); Jack Lee
(1868-1893); Emzy Taylor (1870-1930); Dudley Snyder (1874-1952); Edward
(1877-1877); and Ada Barker Garry (1882-1973). Mrs. Mary Barker died July 18,
1897, and Mr. E.B. Barker died October 31, 1910. They are buried in the Taylor
City Cemetery in Williamson County, Texas.

Christopher Columbus Harvey was born November 16, 1839 in Milam County, Republic
of Texas. He married Elizabeth Jane Oldham Ellis on January 5, 1860, in Burleson
County, Texas. Their known children are: Rufus E. (1862-1891); Nora (1866-1938),
wife of M.W. Green; Robert E. (1875-1891); and Ida May Harvey (1878-1892). Mrs.
Elizabeth Jane Harvey was born April 1, 1841 and died August 2, 1921.
Christopher Columbus Harvey died January 8 1894. Elizabeth and Christopher
Harvey are buried in Porters Chapel Cemetery, Burleson County, Texas

John S. Harvey was born April 5, 1842, in Milam County, Republic of Texas. He
married Emeline M. Loden, born February 22, 1848 in Alabama, on November 1,
1866, in Burleson County, Texas. Their known children are: Roberta Harvey
Mauldin (1868-1954); Effie Jane Harvey Elliott (1871-1962); and Minnie A. Harvey
Thomas (1874-1955). John S. Harvey died February 2, 1919, and Mrs. Emeline
Harvey died January 13, 1927. They are buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Tom Green
County, Texas.

James Lafayette Harvey was born June 22, 1843, in Milam County, Republic of
Texas. He received Civil War Pension number 11394 in Comanche County.
James married Catherine J. “Kate” Murchison on July 24, 1867, in Burleson
County, Texas. Catherine, a daughter of Murdoch and Jane Murchison, was born
June 4, 1850, in Texas. Their known children are: a. Laura J. Harvey, born
October 22, 1870, in Burleson County, married John R. Wood (1851-1932), and
died June 28, 1941, in Dallas County, Texas with burial in Comanche County,
Texas; b. Robert P.. Harvey, born about 1875; c. Lilia May Harvey, born in 1880;
d. Roy Harvey born June 2, 1881, and died January 24, 1977; e. Ira Harvey born
in 1884; and f. Otis Harvey, born in 1889, married twice, 1st
wife Annie, 2nd wife
Katherine, and one son, John D. Harvey born about 1909. Mrs. Catherine M.
Harvey died May 21, 1896, and James L. Harvey died March 9, 1918. Katherine
and James are buried in the Nix Cemetery, Lampasas County, Texas.

Virginia W. (Jennie) Harvey was born July 14, 1846, in Burleson County, Texas,
the year that Burleson County was created. Virginia married Vincent R.C. Avery,
who was born January 1, 1834, and died March 22, 1909. Virginia died May 28,
1935, and they are buried in the Llano Cemetery, Potter County, Texas. Their
known children are: a son James Harvey Avery, born May 23, 1874 and died
February 5, 1958; a daughter Cora M. Avery, born in September 1879 and died
August 8, 1875; a son Eugene V. Avery, born in January 1884 and died October 27,
1928; and a daughter Delia Avery, born in November 1886.

Albert E. Harvey was born January 17, 1853, in Burleson County, Texas. Albert
never married and died March 15, 1913. He is buried in Porters Chapel Cemetery,
Burleson County, Texas.
7.
Edmond McKinney Oldham was born January 18, 1857, in Burleson County, Texas.
Edmond married Hepsey Katherine Clark on November 28, 1878 in Burleson County.
Their known children are: Lillie Oldham, born in May 1881; Lena Oldham, born in
July 1880; Leona Oldham, born in December 1886; and Thomas Nugent Oldham, born
June 24, 1892. Edmond Oldham died April 6, 1932, and Mrs. Katherine Oldham died
in 1950. They are buried in Porters Chapel Cemetery, Burleson County, Texas.
