John Goodwin

John Goodwin was born 17 August 1820, in Louisa County, Virginia, a son of Archibald Tulloch Goodwin and Candice (Sandridge) Goodwin. John married Sarah A. Dickerson in Virginia and they had at least nine children:                                                                                                                     1. Jane D. Goodwin, born about 1845 in Virginia, married Isaac Newton May on 27 August 1867, in Burleson County, Texas.

2. Henry C. Goodwin was born about 1846 in Virginia.

           3. Florence Goodwin, born 27 July 1848, in Virginia, married James W. Ragsdale on 19 November 1868, in Burleson County, Texas.

            4. Jack D. Goodwin was born about 1851 in Virginia.

            5. Joseph S. Goodwin was born about 1852 in Virginia.

            6. Alfred Goodwin was born about 1854.

            7. William Goodwin was born about 1855.

            8. Sallie Goodwin was born about 1857 in Burleson County, Texas

            9. Edgar Goodwin was born about 1869 in Burleson County, Texas.

John, Sarah, and their children came to Burleson County with the 1854 Virginia to Texas Wagon Train. On the 16 July 1860, Census of Burleson  County, Texas, in dwelling #178, family #177, John is shown as a farmer with personal property value of $12,000.00 and real property value of $17,000.00. Mrs. Sarah A. (Dickerson) Goodwin died 23 December 1864, and is buried in the Brazos Bottom Cemetery in Burleson County, Texas. There are four graves in the Brazos Bottom Cemetery identified as J.D. Goodwin, J.S. Goodwin, L. Goodwin, and E. Goodwin, which are thought to be children of John and Sarah Goodwin.

When land was deeded to the Brazos Bottom Baptist Church in Burleson County, Texas, John Goodwin was one of the three Church Trustees. John married Fannie J. Dabney about 1868 and they had a daughter, Fannie B. Goodwin, who was born in May 1869. In the 27 June 1870, Census of Burleson County, Texas, in dwelling #138, family #143, John is shown as a farmer with personal property value of $1,700.00, and real property value of $750.00. John Goodwin died 30 August 1870, and is buried in the Brazos Bottom Cemetery in Burleson County, Texas.
