As your new and enterprising paper has no correspondent from this community, I will take the liberty of representing it in your columns by sending a few personals and items of news.
Hix is the former town of Fraimville, and at some future time I may give your readers a general write-up of our community and unassuming little town—its past, present and future.
The protracted meeting began Sunday. It is conducted by our pastor, J.W. George, assisted by Rev. Lumpkin, a former pastor here, now of Waco. A glorious outpouring of the Holy Spirit and a manifestation of the presence of God is looked for, and much good and Christian work is expected to be done.
The library club held its last meeting after the revival Saturday. An appropriate program in honor of the Fourth had been arranged but was not more than half carried out. The most interesting feature of the entertainment was the debate on the question, Resolved, that the United States should recognize Cuban independence. Both sides were ably championed and the boys not only showed that they had a fair knowledge of the subject but demonstrated extraordinary power as debaters and orators.
The crops in our community as a general thing are very good, especially in the creek bottom cotton is fine. In the district where the hail did so much damage cotton planted over is being chopped out and is looking well. If the weather continues dry we will soon be suffering for rain.
Miss Callie Daws of Llano, who is teaching a music class here, will act as organist during the revival.
Miss Nora Tackey is visiting friends and attending the meeting.
Several of the Gause people were down Sunday
C.C. Porter is visiting relatives in Bosque County, but is expected to return Monday.
Hubert Mulkey, who has been sick with slow fever for some time, is improving.
Ed Denman and Miss Louella Mayes have been on the sick list but are now better, and some of the boys and girls say they are so glad.
Miss Kate Dunn, one of our most charming young ladies, has accepted the same position as she had last session as principal teacher at Providence.
Enoch Dunn has been employed by Mr. Matejowsky to tend to his store while he is making improvements on his gin machinery.
These are just lovely nights. The services usually end about 10 o'clock. This is the hour when lovers feel romantic. This is the hour also when some nightly wanderer will find them not “watching the stars in the skies” or breathing the silence along some sandy road, but having a “picnic” beneath Luna’s soft, silvery light, around the hemi parts of a red complected and luscious watermelon.
