Death of Andrew Sidney Broaddus

Near Caldwell, Texas, April 23

Judge A. S. Broaddus, an old citizen of this county, died about 5 o'clock this morning at his residence, seven miles east of Caldwell. Judge Broaddus came to Caldwell from Virginia in 1854, and had resided in this county ever since with the exception of two years' residence in Bryan. He was a leading lawyer in this county as well as adjoining counties and had uniformly held the full confidence of his fellow citizens. Before coming to Texas he served in the legislature and was a Clay elector on the Whig party in 1844. While in Texas he had been a member of the legislature, district judge, and held other offices.

He was 82 years of age, was an efficient and consistent member of the Baptist church, and left a large number of descendants, consisting of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, who all reside in this county, and are highly respected by all. Judge Broaddus will be buried in the old cemetery tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The attorneys of this place will attend in a body in respect to his memory.
