Dorothy Marie Beran

Dorothy Marie Beran, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Elmcroft of Cy-Fair Assisted Living in Houston.

Dorothy was born in Caldwell Feb. 10, 1936. She is the daughter of Anton and Bessie (Sablatura) Beran.

Dorothy served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts; loved to sew, quilt and cross-stitch; build and refinish furniture; and for many years served as a lay reader at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Taylor.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters Edith Jones and Mary Anne Stasny.

She is survived by her son, Richard Smith of Houston; sons and daughters-in-law Steve and Kim Smith of Pearland; Roger and Hannah Smith of North Carolina; and Steward and Carrie Smith of Lockhart; sister Nettie Hein; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Alfred Wymola; and 10 grandchildren, Lindsay Boyd and Kelsey Smith; Katherine, Luke, William, James, and Madeleine Smith; and Blake, Reagan, Carson, and Hudson Smith. She is also survived by the father of her children, Albert Smith of Caldwell.

A graveside memorial remembrance will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Saint Mary Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Cemetery in Caldwell.
