In the July 20, 1869, Census of Burleson County, Texas, in dwelling #203, lived Albert E. Clement, age 36, a farmer, born in New York; his wife L.J. Clement, age 34, born in New York; their children, all born in Texas: Francis, age 17, a female; Mary, age 14, a female; Lucy, age 10, a female; Albert, age 8, a male; Henry, age 6, a male; Emma, age 4, a female; and Cassitola (sp), age 2, a female.

In the June 14, 1870, Census of Burleson County, Texas, in dwelling #3, lived Elbert Clement, age 48, a farmer, born in New York; his wife Sarah J. Francis, Mary, and Lucy may have married between 1860 and 1870. But, what happened to Emma and Cassitola (sp) between July 1860 and June 1870? If one or both died and was buried on the family farm, then that is why it was named the Clement Graveyard.

In the June 29, 1880, Census of Burleson County, Texas, in dwelling #248, lived C.M. (Charles) Pennington, age 54, a white male  farmer, born in Alabama; his wife Nancy Pennington, age 48, a white female, born in Alabama; their children, all born in Alabama: Z.T., age 26, a white male; John, age 21, a white male; Rebecca, age 18, a white female; Eli, age 17, a white male; William, age 15, a white male; Savannah, age 11, a white female; George, age 9, a white male; and Della, age 5, a white female. In dwelling #249 lived Alonzo Miller, a white male farmer, age 31, born in Georgia.

Mrs. Nancy Pennington, age 69, was laid to rest in the Clement Graveyard, Thursday, March 6, 1900. She leaves a husband, children, grand children, and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Rebecca Pennington Miller, age 45, wife of A.A. Miller of Clay, died Friday, May _, 1900, and was laid to rest in the Clement Graveyard. She was the 2nd member of the (Pennington) family to die this spring. Mrs. (Nancy) Pennington died about 6 weeks ago. Her brother, George Pennington of Allentown, and her niece, Mrs. Ellis of Austin, arrived in tome for the funeral.

Mr. Charles M. Pennington, born in June 1825, in Alabama, was living on June 19, 1900, in the Merle community of Burleson County with his sons: Zack T., Nute, and Will. There are only 3 identifiable graves at what must be the Clement Graveyard. The monuments are for the 3 sons of C.M. and Nancy Pennington: Z.T. Pennington, 22 Dec. 1848 – 24 Jan. 1917; John Newt Pennington, 18 Sept. 1858 – 10 Jan, 1933; and William M. Pennington, 24 April 1864 – 20 May 1937.

The graves of Mr. C. M. and Mrs. Nancy Pennington, Mrs. Rebecca Pennington Miller, and one or more of the Clement family members were not found. There could also be graves of other early Burleson County family members here that can not be located or identified.
