Lubbock AJ Story last updated at 12:52 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003 Rev. W. L. Armstrong Armstrong Rev. W. L. Armstrong Jr. died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Abilene. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles Blvd., Abilene, TX 79605. Rev. Armstrong was born in Rising Star, Texas, Oct. 19, 1923. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. In 1946 W.L. married his childhood sweetheart, Faye Baker, and to this union were born three children: Jackie Faye, Beyrl K. and C. Scott. W.L. spent most of his ministry in Mission service in Indonesia. He also served five years in Hawaii and four years with the Methodist home in Waco. W.L. served churches in Elida, N.M., Robertson-Canyon, Lake Creek, Lorenzo, Lamesa, Turkey, Lebanon, Coon Creek, and Whitney, Texas. He is survived by Faye, his loving wife of 57 years, of Abilene; his brother J. Clifton Armstrong of Lubbock; daughter Jackie of Fort Worth; son Beyrl of Dripping Springs; son C. Scott of Jakarta, Indonesia; numerous cousins including J.F. Armstrong of Abilene; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many foster children in both the U.S. and Indonesia; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends throughout the globe.
