The Delta County Library sell a collection
of cemetery books, "Voices in the Wind: The Cemetery Records of Delta
County Texas". This project was complied by Judy
Falls and Sylvia
Wood. These books are a real tribute to all the Delta County
citizens that worked together to preserve the cemetery records of Delta
County. Several
of the 1997 Cooper High School students canvased the cemeteries and recorded
the tombstones. Others within the community that contributed
are the former Sheriff, Benny Fisher, former Delta County Commissioner,
Mickey Goforth; Don Woodward; Edna Ruth Roan; and Doris Alley and many
others. The following
Delta County cemetery associations mentioned include: Oak Lawn Cemetery
Association, Pecan Gap Cemetery Association, Lake Creek Cemetery Association
and the East Delta Cemetery Association. The proceeds
from the sale of these books support the library, the only secure
repository for Delta County historical records. If
you decide to purchase any books from the library, please let the librarian
know that you located the booklist at the Rootsweb site.
May 2008—Update Judy Falls and her group are putting together another cemetery book, to include unmarked graves. This will be a wonderful addition to a great study on Delta County. Keep posted for the publication release date. | |
