J Q Bridges

Rev. J.Q. Bridges, 81, retired Baptist minister died at his home. Services wree held at First Baptist Church at Breckenridge.

J.Q. Bridges married Lina Griffin at Nashville, Tennessee on 26 December 1876. There were 14 children born to this union. Five are deceased and nine are living. His wife preceded him in death.

Mr. Bridges was ordained a Baptist minister at Ellistown, Mississippi on 6 October 1884. He moved to Texas in 1885 and made his home in HIll County, where he pastored churches until he moved to Denton. From Denton, he moved to Throckmorton County in 1897 where he preached until he moved to Stephens County in 1916. While living in Stephens County, he pastored at Bethel in Shackelford County and Crystal Falls in Stephens County. His last pastorate was at Crystal Falls in 1927. His membership was at Crystal Falls at the time of his death.

Survived by his children - Mrs. J.H. Bowen, J.A.W. Bridges, Mrs. J.H. Pannell, W.M. Bridges, G.N. Bridges, Mrs. I.A. Putman, Mrs. E.M. Hary, H.T. Bridges; 34 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister - Mrs. Cary Griffin; many distant relatives.
