Funeral services for Leona E. Gilman, an 84 year-old-Breckenridge resident, were
held on Monday, February 1, 1993, at 10 a.m., at Bates Chapel at First Baptist
Church.
Reverend Cecil Harper, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in Breckenridge
Cemetery, under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Mrs. Gilman died Friday morning, January 29, 1993, at Irving Hospital in Irving.
She was born Leona Evelyn Sellers on September 22, 1908 in Pierceton, Indiana.
She grew up in Pierceton and graduated from Pierceton High School.
She had worked as a waitress in Warsaw, Indiana. She married Edwin E. Gilman in
Goshen, Indiana on March 21, 1934. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1951.
They had lived in the Pierceton, Indiana, area where they had farmed. They moved
to Breckenridge in August of 1948 from Pierceton. She was a member of the Order
of the Eastern Star Breckenridge Chapter #659. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church where she had taught a women’s Sunday School class for many
years. She had been employed at Stephens Memorial Hospital for 20 years as a
medical records librarian.
Survivors include one son, Richard Gilman of Breckenridge; two daughters, Sheila
Small and Mary E. Havens, both of Irving; one brother, Leonard D. Sellers of
Pierceton, Indiana and five grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Memorials may be left at Morehart Mortuary.
Pallbearers were Dale Aldridge, Richard Daves, Gene Kribbs, Cecil Mayes, B.B.
“Hack” Phillips and L.G. Stump.
