Louis Monroe Lane

L.M. Lane, 67, Stephens County resident died at his home
10 miles south of Breckenridge as a result of burns received 10 days before his
death.
The accident occurred when Mr. and Mrs. Lane were cleaning an old clock with
kerosene and some of the kerosene get on their clothing. The clock was place too
close to a stove and caught fire. Mrs. Lane tried to throw the clock away, but
the flame reached Mr. Lane and ignited his clothing. Lane tried to run, but Mrs.
Lane caught him and smothered the flames in bed covers.
Services were held at the Primitive Baptist Church near the Lane home with Elder
Phillip C. McGahy officiating.
Lane was a native Texas and moved to Stephens County in 1893. He was well know
by the people of Stephens County.
Survived by his wife; even daughters - Mrs. G.M. Sawyer and Mrs. Catherine
Blasingame, both of Breckenridge, Mrs. D.F. Anderson and Mrs. J.E. Gardner, both
of Colorado; Mrs. Mary Jones of Gorman; Mrs. W.G. Ramsey of Pennsylvania; two
brothers - J.D. of Mineral Wells; H.J. of Nimrod; 10 grandchildren.
