He died when he was shot over a dispute with a friend over his favorite horse.

was shot dead the result of a long time feud with a John Monroe.

He was shot dead by Federal troops in Brenham during an era of race riots following the Civil War,according to article in a Galveston newspaper dated November 30th, 1867.

US Congressman, elected to represent Indiana's 7th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1839 to 1840. Also served as a Member of the Tennessee State Senate in 1824, Candidate for United States Senator from Indiana in 1839, Candidate for Governor of Indiana in 1840, and United States Charge d'Affaires to Texas in 1844. He was later moved to Rockville Cemetery in Rockville, Indiana; however, the stone still remains here.
