SHOCKING OCCURANCE A Prominent Lawyer of Brenham Shoots Himself Through the Head. [Special to The News] Brenham, February 11. -- Brenham was thrown into great gloom and sorrow this afternoon on the announcement of the death of Mr. E. F. Ewing, a member of the law firm of Breedlove & Ewing. Mr. Ewing was wounded during the late war and has suffered considerably ever since, his pains increasing with the years. About one year ago he was taken sick and has been compelled to remain at his home ever since. To-day, at 1 o'clock, while the family were at dinner, Mr. Ewing shot himself through the head with a pistol and died almost immediately. The deceased was about forty-eight years old. He had lived here all his life, and the entire public loved and respected him. He had been for many years one of the leading members of the Washington County bar, and his untimely death is received with great sorrow by his brother attorneys, who will attend his funeral obsequies in a body to-morrow morning. He leaves a wife, two daughters and a grown son to mourn his loss, and they have the sincere sympathy of all citizens. The Galveston Daily News, February 12, 1885, page 2.
