Front page of the Brenham Banner Press Saturday, July 13, 1935 MRS. M. BLACKBURN OF BURTON IS DEAD FUNERAL ON SUNDAY Mrs. Mary A. Blackburn, life-long resident of Washington County and member of a fine old pioneer family of this section, passed away at 10:45 Friday night at her home in Burton, after a lingering illness extending over the past two and a half years. She was 75 years, 6 months, and 29 days of age. This splendid Christian woman ws born December 13, 1859, in Washington County, and was married to the late Wayne Blackburn November 9, 1879. She was a faithful and devout member of the Christian church of Burton for many years, and was very active in the performance of her church duties. The following children are left to mourn her death: Earl Blackburn of Port Arthur, Bon Blackburn, Burton; Gus Blackburn of Corning, California, Ross Blackburn of Orlando, Florida, and Mrs. M. M. Harding of Houston. She also leaves fifteen grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and warm friends. Funeral services will be held at the Burton Christian Church at four o'clock Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Will Wilkening officiating. Arrangements are in charge of Leon Simank, funeral director. Interment will be in the Oak Hill cemetery at Burton, where all that is mortal of Mrs. Blackburn will be laid to rest by the side of her husband, who preceded her to the grave about two years ago.
