Front Page of the Brenham Banner Press Saturday, August 19, 1933 WAYNE BLACKBURN FATALLY STRICKEN AT BURTON FRIDAY Venerable Man Was Oldest Native Born Washington County Citizen Wayne Blackburn, 82, of Burton, who enjoyed the distinction of being the oldest native born Washington County citizen, died Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock as the result of a stroke. The venerable man was extremely active for his age and had been down town Friday morning. Mr. Blackburn, who was a retired farmer and stockman was known to many Washington County people, particularly the old timers. He was born in Washington County and has made his home here ever since. He is survived by four sons and one daughter as follows: Earl Blackburn of Port Arthur; Bonham Blackburn of Burton; Ross Blackburn of Daytona Beach, Florida; Guss Blackburn of Corning, California, and Mrs. Mason Harding of Houston. Another daughter died several years ago. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Jerome Blackburn of Lampassas and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Garrett of Cameron and Mrs. Bill Elliott of Somerville. Funeral services will be held from the First Christian church of Burton and interment will be in the Burton cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hy. Bredthauer, Roscoe Fincher, Thad Knittle, A. S. Homeyer, Robt. Turner and E. D. Knittle. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Bosse, T. F. Matchett, Sam D. W. Low, Will Wendt, Will Ewing, H. L. Reese, John Hoffman, C. B. Thompson, Alex Griffin and Frank Wood of Brenham, and Albert Kuehn, H. M. Bryan, John Dixon, Thos. Watson, Ed Schatz, Joe Steiner, Wm. Dallmeyer, E. R. Broesche, Beth Dement, A. S. Whitener, W. E. Sanders, Aug. Kieke F. A. Homeyer, Dr. C. E. Southern, R. L. Armstrong, Gus Weeren, Hugh Vogelsang and Chas. Knipstein of Burton. Leon Simank, funeral director, is in charge of the arrangements.
