Description: Body of a former soldier found on the Sister Grove Fork of the Trinity. Date: March 22 1843 Newspaper published in: Washington, Texas The Northern Standard states that a skeleton of a man was lately found on the Sister Grove Fork of the Trinity about ten miles from Throckmorton, a settlement, in a northeasterly direction. Some military buttons were found among the bones, and near them a tin cup marked P. Jefferson, and below it, the word Russel. It is supposed that the deceased was formerly a soldier in Col. Cooke's Regiment, and perished during the expedition to survey the military road. The relics of a large encampment were found near the skeleton.
