BAAS, Peter, age 50, of 1010 Edson St., Lynden, passed away in a local hospital suddenly Thursday, July 12, (1962). He had been a resident of Lynden since 1954, and for the past 2 1/2 years had been employed as bookkeeper at the Bellingham Auto and Radiator Repair Shop. He had served with the U. S. Army during W. W. II, and was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, at home; one brother, James Baas; one sister, Mrs. Aggie Baas and his mother, Mrs. Jennie Baas, all of Holland, Mich. Funeral services will be held in the 1st Christian Reformed Church Monday, July 16 at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Bernard Byma officiating. Burial will follow in the Monumenta Cemetery under the direction of the Gillies Funeral Home.

BAATZ, Ernest, - Funeral services for Ernest Baatz, 66, 1655 Chuckanut Point Road, will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth E. Daugs at 1 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Mr. Baatz died Monday, (Sept. 20, 1965). He was a lifetime resident of this community and an employee of Puget Sound Power & Light Co. before retiring. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Baatz was a member of Albert J. Hamilton Post 7, American Legion; Electrical Workers Union, Local 77, and Bellingham Lodge 194, BPOE. Surviving are the widow, Alice; a step-son, Delbert Edquist of San Ramon, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Richardson and Mrs. Dorothy Kotsogean, both of Bellingham, and two grandchildren.

BAATZ, Marie, 81 widow of Ferdinand Baatz, passed away on Thursday evening (Dec. 17, 1936) at her home, 2324 F street, following an illness of two weeks. She was a member of the German Lutheran church here and had resided in the city for twenty years. Surviving are two sons and two daughters in Bellingham. They are William and Ernest Baatz, Mrs. Marie Richardson and Mrs. Dora Kotosgene; a sister, Sophia Whitmanhouse, of Germany, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be held at the Homer Mark mortuary Saturday at 2 p. m., with the Rev. Carl Zimmerman officiating. The body will be taken to Waldron island Monday morning for burial.

BAATZ, Ruby W., age 92, of 1509 E. Victor, passed away Fri., Sept. 23, (1977). BABCOCK, Bertha M., age 90 passed away in a local nursing home Tues., Nov. 6, 1979. Her local residence was 3200 Northwest Ave., B'ham. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Her husband Guy preceded her in death. BABCOCK, Cecil Joe, 60, resident of Concrete, Washington died Monday May 8, 1978 as a result of drowning at Everett Lake. He was born at Park, Wa. Feb. 1, 1918 and has been Skagit and Whatcom County resident all of his life. He was a World War II veteran and member of the Sedro Woolley American Legion. He is survived by his wife Helen of Concrete, two daughters, Rose Brooks of Sedro Woolley, Lee Anna Blanchette of Ballard, two sisters, Violet Terrell of Bainbridge Island, Eloise Maddox of Bainbridge Island, 4 step children, four grand children. Services were Thursday May 11, Lemley Chapel, Sedro Woolley at 11 a.m. Interment Saxon Cemetery.

BABCOCK, Ina A., age 79, of 2419 Undine Street, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, Jan. 20, (1951). Mrs. Babcock had been a resident of this community for the past 60 years and was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Surviving relatives are four daughters, Mrs. Ilene L. Gossage, Mrs. Sylvia Marshall and Mrs. Zella Hatter, all of Bellingham, and Mrs. Hazel B. Wilbur, of Everett. BACHERT, Ralph A., age 75 of 1708 G St., passed away Friday, December 2, (1966). Mr. Bachert had resided in Bellingham for the past 38 years and was a retired teamster. BACKER, Jens H., age 72, of Everson, passed away at his home Sunday, April 26, (1959) following a sudden illness. He had been a resident of Everson since 1914 and he had owned and operated the Everson Mercantile for 42 years, retiring in 1956. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; one son, John of Everson; two brothers and two sisters in Norway; one grandchild; one nephew, Hans Backer of Seattle. BACKSTROM, Albert M., age 80 of 1000 Rio Vista, Burlington, passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, (1974). A lifetime resident of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, he had been employed by the Puget Sound Power & Light Co. for over 40 years. He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church and the IBEW, Local No. 77. BACKSTROM, Robert S., age 47, a 27 year resident of Sedro Woolley, passed away Jan. 26, 1977. He was born June 25, 1925 in Everett and was raised in the Lake Stevens area. He had been employed as a machinist with Skagit Bendix Corp. in Sedro Woolley for many years. He was a WWII & Korean veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corp. BACKUS, Alfonso C., age 72, of Route 1, Custer, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, Nov. 25, (1957) as a result of a heart attack. Mr. Backus had been a resident of the Sunrise community for the past three months and had formerly resided in Skagit County. BACON, Harry E., age 65, of Marine Drive, passed away at a local hospital Sunday, January 25, (1953). Mr. Bacon had resided in this community for the past 25 years, and was an accountant. BACON, John Marshall, age 42, of 206 Forest Lane, passed away suddenly at the family residence, Wednesday, Nov. 23, (1955). Mr. Bacon had been a resident of Bellingham his entire lifetime. He was a baptised member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a member of the Washington Bar Association. He attended Western Washington College and then received his law degree at the University of San Francisco in 1946. He had practiced law in Bellingham since that time and served as city attorney in Blaine for three years. Mr. Bacon is survived by his wife, Cora C. Bacon, his mother, Mrs. Mable D. Bacon; one brother, Cecil D. Bacon; one sister, Mrs. Frances E. Roberts, all of Bellingham. Rev. Father Robert W. BACON, Mabel Donovan, age 79, who resided at 708 N. Forest St., passed away at the residence on Monday, March 24, (1958) following a lingering illness. Mrs. Bacon was born in Old Sehome in 1879 and was the daughter of the late Charles Donovan. She served for more than 20 years on the library board and was a president of the Library Association for many years. She was a member of one of the early classes of Stanford University and for many years a member of the Monday Club. Surviving relatives include her son, Cecil D. Bacon of Everett, Wash.; her daughter, Mrs. Frances Bacon Roberts of Bellingham; two sisters, Mr. (sic) E. R. Myers, and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, both of Seattle. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Rev. Father W. Robert Webb will officiate at funeral services on Thursday, March 27, at 11 a. m. in the Chapel of the Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home, followed by cremation. BACUS, Winnifred, age 82, lifelong resident of Skagit County, died Jan. 30, 1979 at United General Hospital. She was born April 12, 1896 at Fir Island and was raised at Hamilton. Her marriage to Fred Bacus took place in 1920 and he preceded her in death in 1970. She was a member of the Sedro Woolley Eagles Auxiliary and the Skiyou Grange. Survived by 4 sons, Jake McCracken, Turk Bacus, Ivan Bacus & Kenneth Bacus all of Sedro Woolley. 2 daughters, Evelyn Ellis in California, Celia Whittle of Sedro Woolley. BAETEN, Henry, age 90, a long time resident of Blaine, passed away April 25th, (1976). The family moved to Whatcom County from California following the earthquake of 1906. He worked in the Shingle Mills in the Maple Falls area, until moving to Blaine in 1923. He operated a Shingle Mill & Lumber Yard until his retirement. He instigated the Birch Bay Water Line and has been a member of the City Council for many years. Surviving are two daughters, Bessie Eames and Helen Harmon of Blaine, a brother Peter Baeten of Bellingham. Plus 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park, Tuesday April 27th, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Walters officiating. BAGLEY, Ivey S., age 54 of 1606 Donovan, passed away at her home on Wednesday, July 11, (1962) following an extended illness. Mrs. Bagley had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 16 years and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church. She was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary Branch 245. She leaves to survive her husband, Richard Bagley at home; one son, Richard W. Jr., and one daughter, Helen Elizabeth, both at home; her mother, Mrs. J. M. Sawyer of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kaivel of Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Doris Branch of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Ada Reedy of Rome, N. Y.; also numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home where arrangements are pending. Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 16 at 7 p. m. in the chapel of Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 17 at 9:30 a. m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment Bay View Cemetery.

BAGLEY, Maude Agnes, age 75, 117 Underhill Road, passed away in a local hospital Friday, June 21, (1963). Mrs. Bagley was a forty-three year resident of this community. Survivors are four sons, Richard W., Kenneth C. and William H., all of Bellingham, and Arthur J. of Sedro-Woolley; one daughter, Mrs. David Himebaugh, City; many grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ada Cochrum of Tacoma. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted by Rev. James York Monday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial in the Sedro Woolley Cemetery.

BAGLEY, Richard W., age 57 who resided at 1606 Donovan Ave. passed away in the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton on Sunday December 8, (1963). Mr. Bagley had resided in Bellingham for the past 17 years. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart, a veteran of World War II; a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a retired officer of the United States Navy, having served 23 years. He leaves to survive his daughter, Helen, his son, Richard W. at the family residence, 3 brothers, William and Kenneth of Bellingham, Arthur of Sedro Woolley, also his sister, Mrs. Ada Himebaugh of Bellingham, numerous nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Rosary will be said Wednesday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Bingham and Jerns Funeral Home. Requiem high mass will be offered in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Thursday, December 12 at 9:30 a.m. Interment Bay View Cemetery.

BAGLEY, William H., Sr., 77, Mt. Vernon resident, died there Monday (Sept. 1977). Born in Everett, where he was educated and worked for the Sheriff's Dept. there until 1943 when he moved to Arlington. He married May E. Lundgren in Everett, May 22, 1927. Mr. Bagley was chief of police in Arlington for 10 years and in 1954 moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked for the government. In 1962 he retired and moved to Mt. Vernon where he had resided since. Mrs. Bagley preceded him in death in 1971. He was a member of the Arlington Lodge No. 129 F&AM. Survivors 1 daughter Mrs. Marshal (Mary Lou) Douglas of Hawaii; 1 son, William H. Bagley, Jr. of Mt. Vernon; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, 2 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 29. Mr. Bagley will lie in state at the Kern Funeral Chapel in Mt. Vernon until noon, Thurs. Memorials may be given to charity of the donors choice.

BAIER, Charlotta "Lottie" age 88, of 6400 Vista Dr., Ferndale passed away Fri. Dec. 8, 1978. Born in Russia in 1890, she came to the U.S. & settled in N. Dakota in 1907, she married Sam Baier in 1910 & they lived in Nebraska for 9 years. In 1941 the Baiers moved to the Ferndale/White Horn area. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She is survived by 2 sons; Arthur Baier of Alliance, Nebraska & Edwin Baier of Alderwood Manor. 4 daughters; Helen Rudy, Emma Zwicker, Martha Heinz all of Ferndale & Edna Tietz of Missoula, Montana, 22 grandchildren 50 great grandchildren & 4 great great grandchildren. Numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Robert E. Johnson, Tues. Dec. 12th at 2:30 pm in Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park under the direction of Moles Funeral Home. BAIER, Oscar, age 36, of Rt. 2, Ferndale, passed away at his home Tuesday, Jan. 10, (1956) following an extended illness. He had lived in the Ferndale district for the past 14 years and was with the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Ferndale and is a past commander of Kulshan Post No. 154, American Legion. Surviving relatives include his wife, Louise; one daughter, Dianna; one son, Ronald; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Baier of Ferndale; six sisters, Mrs. Emma Zwizker, Mrs. Martha Heinz, Mrs. Helen Rudy, all of Ferndale, Mrs. Lenora Blumanthal of Lynden, Mrs. Anna Meidinger of Ronan, Mont., Mrs. Edna Tietz of Missoula, Mont.; two brothers, Arthur of Alliance, Neb., and Edwin of Edmonds, Wash. BAILEY, Beatrice Agnes, of Sumas, passed away at her home, Saturday, June 2, (1945) at the age of 73 years. She had resided in Sumas for the past 13 years and is survived by her husband, John C.; one sister, Mrs. Agnes McGee, of Minnesota, and one brother, Henry Ruddy, also of Minnesota. BAILEY, Charles T., Sr., passed away at home in Los Angeles, California, April 5, 1977, where he had resided for the past 23 years. BAILEY, Earl K., 77, of Anacortes, Wa., passed away July 19, (1977) in Anacortes. He was born in Elk River, Minn., April 8, 1900. He lived in the Anacortes area all his life. He was a lumber grader until he retired in 1962. BAILEY, Hannah Louise, age 80 years, resident of county since 1895, passed away at her home Tuesday morning, September 23, (1947) following a brief illness. BAILEY, John Calhoun, age 76, of Route 1, Sumas, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, April 23, (1950) following a short illness. Mr. Bailey had been a resident of this community for the past 18 years and had been an immigration inspector, having retired four years ago. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mabel L., at home; a sister, Mrs. Martin Lindo, of Evansville, Ind., and many nieces and nephews in Indiana. BAILEY, Mary Ellen, age 41 years, of Everson, passed away Monday, February 10, (1947). She had lived her entire lifetime in Everson. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, president of Whatcom County Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lynden. BAILEY, Oscar A., age 84, of 1940 Matz Rd., Ferndale, passed away Thurs., June 10, (1976). BAILEY, Dr. Ralph, age 78 years of Ferndale, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, (1958) in a local hospital following an extended illness. Dr. Bailey came to Ferndale at the age of 4 and had lived there the past 74 years. He was a graduate of the Bellingham Schools and the University of Southern California, and practiced dentistry the past fifty years in Ferndale. He was a member of the United Church of Ferndale and Ferndale Lions Club. Surviving relatives include his wife, Elsie; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Beerup and Mrs. Lauree Felix, both of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Ruth Neher of Bellingham; six sons, Warren, Halbert and Charles of Ferndale, Buryl of Custer, Jess of Marysville and Wesley of Aberdeen; one brother, Guy of Seattle; 17 grandchildren. BAILEY, Roy W. age 67 of Butte, Montana, passed away Thursday, March 31, (1960) in Missoula following a brief illness. He had been a resident of Montana for the past 45 years and had served with the 91st Division during WW I, was an engineer for the Northern Pacific Railroad; a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Firemen and Engineers; AF & AM No. 32 of Livingston, Montana; American Legion of Livingston, William Lee Alexander Post V.F.W. of Laurel. BAILEY, Viva M., age 64, of 717 High Street, passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, December 23, (1947). BAIR, Mary D., 78, Steilacoom, the mother of Mrs. Charles Veirs of Ferndale, died Monday (Jan. 31, 1972) in Bellingham. A resident of Steilacoom for 52 years, she was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church at Lakewood. BAJEMA, Mary A., wife of Raymond J. Bajema, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 1980) morning at St. Luke's Hospital after a prolonged illness. One of 10 children, she was born Feb. 9, 1899, in Union Furnace, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Bajema of 7361 Wiser Lane, Lynden, two daughters, six sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. BAJEMA, Raymond J., age 87, 7361 Wiser Lane, Lynden, passed away at his home on Fri. Jan. 3, 1986. Born Feb. 19, 1898 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mr. Bajema moved with his family to Whatcom County in 1906. A retired carpenter, Mr. Bajema was a member of the Carpenters & Joiners Union Local 756 of Bellingham and during WWI served in the US Merchant Marine and during WWII served in the US Navy. He was married to his wife Mary [Alexander] in Bremerton in April of 1955. Mrs. Bajema died in 1980. BAKER, Alva L, age 52, of 1829 Smith Rd. passed away in a local hospital Saturday, March 26, (1960) following a short illness. BAKER, Arthur W., age 80, who resided in Marietta, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Nov. 13, (1958) following a lingering illness. Mr. Baker had resided in Marietta for the past 34 years. He was a retired merchant and postmaster, member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ferndale, veteran of the Spanish-American War, a member of the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie M. BAKER, Frances, age 83, passed away in a local convalescent center Wed., May 12, (1976). BAKKE, Inga, age 67, passed away at the family home 1319 Humboldt Street, Friday, April 9, (1948). Mrs. Bakke had been a resident of this community for the past 42 years and had attended the Gladstone Methodist Church, and was a member of the Bethany Circle. BAKKE, Jacob A., age 74, of 3119 Humboldt St. passed away suddenly Friday, May 6, (1955). Mr. Bakke had resided in this community for the past 50 years and was a member of the Lutheran Church and life member of the Carpenters Union. BAKKE, Louis A., age 78 years, of 1302 Twenty-third Street, passed away at the family residence Wednesday morning, November 26, (1947) after a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Bellingham for the past forty-five years, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. BAKKE, Oscar, age 46 years, passed away at Spokane, Wash., Monday, March 18, (1946). Although Mr. Bakke had been in Spokane and Moscow, Idaho, for the past 23 years, he was a local boy, having graduated from the Fairhaven High School and the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. He was a member of the following organizations at Moscow, Idaho; Past president of the Lions Club, a member of the B. P. O. E. Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge and the Sons of Norway. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bakke, of Bellingham; one brother, Edwin A. Bakke, of Cordova, Alaska; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Thompson, Mrs. Clara Watson and Mrs. Lena Hansen, all of the city; three nephews and one niece. BAKKE, Theodore T., age 65, 2003 Mt. Baker Highway, passed away at home Tuesday, March 17, (1964). Mr. Bakke was a thirty-eight year resident of this community, where he was a farmer and logger before retiring. BAKKOM, Osten H., age 95, of 403 Baker St., passed away Wednesday, June 3, (1964) in a local rest home following an extended illness. Mr. Bakkom had been a resident of the Ferndale community for the past 38 years. Survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Harrell of Tacoma; 5 sons, Oskar of Green Bay, Wisc., Iver of Banning, Calif.; Melvin, Herman and Orlando, all of Bellingham. BAKLUND, Leonard M., age 54, of 1148 Grant Street, passed away in a local hospital Monday, Sept. 19, (1949). Mr. Baklund had resided in this community for the past 44 years and was a retired mail carrier. Deceased was a member of the Lutheran Church in Minnesota and Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7, American Legion. BALCH, Benson A., age 76, 2410 King Street, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, (1964). Mr. Balch was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, in May of this year. He was a retired painter, and a life member of Fairhaven Lodge No. 73, F&AM. He is survived by a nephew, Robert Balch of Upton, Mass. BALCH, David A. A former resident of the Mt. View community, David A. Balch, 75, of Puyallup died May 24, (1972). He was a retired farmer and a Navy veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Emily; one son, William C. of Seattle; three daughters, Mrs. James Clow and Mrs. John Berg and Mrs. Shirley Walter; one brother, Earl of Bellingham, and five grandchildren.

BALCH, Emma age 94 of Marietta passed away in a local hospital Friday, May 5, (1961) following an extended illness. Mrs. Balch had been a resident of the Lummi Reservation for the past 72 years. BALCH, Lorena, age 82, of Mt. Vernon, formerly Acme, Wa. died Thursday (March 11, 1976) in a Mt. Vernon nursing home. She was born Aug. 31, 1893 in Ellensburg, Wa. came to Acme in 1920. She resided in Skagit County since 1928. She was the widow of John Balch. Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Harris of Mt. T.; was a Knight Grand Cross of Evergreen State Priority No. 41 Knights of the York Cross; a 33rd Degree member of A. & A. Scottish rite of Free Masonory S. J., U. S. A.; past Grand Royal Patron order of Amaranth State of Washington; past Royal Patron of Bellingham Court No. 25 O. of A. of Bellingham; past Worthy Patron Maple Leaf Chapter No. 58 OES Bellingham. He was a past Lieutenant Governor and President of the Kiwanis Club; past president of the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by two sons, Kirby H. of Everett, and Clayton H. of this city; two granddaughters, Aridis and Barbara Baldrey, of Everett. BALDUF, Odessa, age 50, of 2708 Birchwood passed away in a local hospital Friday, Aug. 31, (1962). Mrs. Baldauf (sic) had been a 28 year resident of this community and was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church; was a member of St. Anne's Guild and for many years had served as the Assistant Superintendent and Secretary of St. Paul's Sunday School. BALDWIN, Annie M., age 97, who resided at 1603 E. Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, (1962) following an extended illness. Mrs. Baldwin attended the First Christian Church and was a pioneer in this area, having resided in Lynden since 1898 and came to Bellingham to make her home in 1928. BALDWIN, Harold L., 91, 1200 Lincoln St., died Friday (April 11, 1986) at a local nursing home. He was born June 4, 1894, in Deming and lived in Whatcom county all of his life. BALFOUR, Pearl, 85, of 5044 Northwest Rd., Bellingham, passed away Wed., Dec. 3, (1975). Mrs. Balfour had been a resident of North Bellingham for over 55 years and is survived by 3 daughters, Dorothy Genther of Edmonds, Devona Gamlen of Hood River, Ore., June Gamlen of Bellingham; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. BALGUM, Mary D., age 80, formerly of 2824 Kulshan St., passed away Mon., Oct. 3, (1977). Mrs. Balgum was a life time resident of this community. Surviving 1 brother, Howard M. BALICH, Ruby L., age 60. A Sedro Woolley resident, died in Everett Sat. Aug. 9, 1980. She was born in N. Carolina Oct. 23, 1919. The daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Claud Moody. As a child she came to Washington where she settled in Hamilton where she was educated. She also resided in Ore. & British Columbia and married Max Balich in Mt. Vernon, May 4, 1968. She was a member of the Emblem Club of Mt. Vernon. Survivors are her husband Max of Sedro Woolley; 1 daughter, Janice Hey of Everett; 2 step daughters, Nan Frazier of Bellingham & Timmie Baker of Ferndale; 1 sister Lucille Self of Hamilton; 2 brothers, William Moody of S. Bend. 3 grandchildren & nieces & nephews. Her parents, 1 sister, 1 brother preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held in the Kern Funeral Chapel, Mt. Vernon Wed. at 1 pm, Aug. 13 with burial to follow in the Hawthorne Lawn Cemetery, Mt. Vernon. Memorials may be given to the Washington Childrens Home Society.

BALIUS, Fern M., age 63, 2400 Jaeger Street, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Dec. 5, (1962). Mrs. Balius was a 38-year resident of this community; a member of the First Spiritualist Church; a member of Holly Rebekah Lodge No. 153, and of Kulshan Council No. 3, Daughters of America. Survivors are her husband, Walter at home; one son, Richard Balius, Palo Alto, Cal.; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Harrington, city; three grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Selby, city, William Selby, Culver City, Cal., and many uncles and cousins. BALIUS, Walter Roy, age 78, 2400 Jaeger Street, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, Jan. 23, (1963). Mr. Balius was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, last December. He was a 29-year resident of this community; was a retired plywood worker; a member of the First Spiritualist Church; the International Woodworkers of America and a lifetime member of FOE Aerie No. 31. Survivors are one son, Richard J. Balius, California; one daughter, Mrs. Maxine Harrington, city; three grandchildren; one brother, George Balius, White Rock, B. C., and one sister, Mrs. Edith McKeeman, Palo Alto, Calif. The remains rest at the Jones Funeral Home where services will be conducted, Monday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a. m. BALL, Ann J., age 69 of Sumas, passed away in a local hospital Monday, April 6, (1964) following a short illness. A long-time resident of Seattle, she had made her home in Sumas for the past 2 years. Surviving are 4 brothers, James, George, Robert and William Morrison, all of Seattle; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. E. H. Bull and Mrs. Thomas Koeneman, both of Sumas. BALL, Belva L., age 76, of 1816 High St., passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, April 3, (1962). Miss Ball had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 36 years and was a member of the Garden Street Methodist Church, a graduate of St. Luke's Hospital and a member of St. Luke's Assistance League. She leaves to survive two cousins, Mrs. G. Horras and Mrs. M. Richardson, both of Iowa. BALL, Hattie E., age 86, of 2820 Eldridge Ave., passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, June 21, (1955). Mrs. Ball had resided in this community for the past 54 years, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and was one of the founders of the Mother's Club and assisted in the forming of the Lee Memorial Park. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Lindstrom of Bellingham; one granddaughter, Mrs. Russell Taft of Vallejo, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Samuel Perry of Pennyan, N. Y.; two brothers, Bert Davis of Pennyan, N. Y., and George Davis of Poultney, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews. The remains rest at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by Rev. Cannon E. B. Smith, Thursday, June 23, at 1 p. m. Final resting place, Bay View.

BALL, John, 74, of Burlington, died Sun. Dec. 27, 1981 at United General Hospital. He was born Dec. 21, 1907 at Whitney, Skagit County. His marriage to Genevieve Gordon took place Oct. 11, 1930 in Mt. Vernon. He had operated the Burlington Machine Shop from 1931 until his retirement in 1958. He was a collector of antique machinery and a member of various steam organizations. He was a member & past president of the Skagit County Sheriffs Posse; past president of the Skagit County Pioneer Assoc.; past president of the Skagit County Historical Society and a former Drainage District Commissioner. Surviving are his wife Geneveive at home; 1 sister, Olive Sparrs, Burlington; 1 brother, Marston Ball, Burlington; 1 niece, Floy Fortin, Burlington and 3 nephews, Ed London, Puyallup, Jim London, Sedro Woolley & Fred Langton, Tacoma. He was preceded in death by a brother Floyd Ball. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wed. Dec. 30 at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Anacortes. BALL, William, age 92 years, 2517 Woburn Street, passed away at a local hospital, Thursday, August 29, (1946). Mr. Ball had resided here the past forty years and was a retired railroad fireman. Surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Alice Shuh, Crescent, Ill., and Mrs. Clyde Smith, Port Angeles, Wash. The remains are at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth where services will be conducted by the Rev. J. C. Snowdon, pastor of the Eureka Methodist Church, Saturday, August 31, at 10:30 a. m. BALLAINE, Dr. William, passed away Saturday (Dec. 1, 1945) at 2:30 p. m. at the residence, 135 N. Forest Street. He was stricken suddenly and died before he could be removed to a hospital. Dr. Ballaine was 71 years of age and was born in Walnut, Kansas. He had lived here the past thirty-nine years, coming to Bellingham in 1906. He was a graduate of a medical school at Louisville, Kentucky, and was an attendant at St. Paul's Episcopal church. Dr. Ballaine was medical examiner for the local draft board during World War I. He was captain of the National Guard, and was medical officer of the Washington National Guard, 151st Infantry for many years, and until the guard was mustered into national service at the beginning of World War II. He also was city health officer here for many years. Surviving are the widow, Margaret Ballaine, and one son, Wesley C. Ballaine, an associate professor at the University of Oregon at Eugene. The remains will lie in state at the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth until noon Tuesday and services will be conducted within the St. Paul's Episcopal Church by Rev. Canon E. B. Smith, Tuesday, December 4, at 1:30 p. m. Cremation.

BALLANTYNE, George Nelson, age 35 of North Surrey, B. C., fatally injured in an automobile accident Thursday, April 20, (1967). Mr. Ballantyne was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union No. 1251, New Westminster branch, also an active scout leader. He was a member of Our Lady of Council Catholic Church. He leaves to survive his wife, Arline, four sons, Mark, Paul, Steven and Christopher, two daughters, Sylia and Mary all at home, his parents Mr. and Mrs. George B. Ballantyne, of British Columbia. The remains will be forwarded by Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home to N. Surrey, B.C. for services and interment.

BALLARD, Carl M., 76, Seattle, who died Friday (Nov. 15, 1963) in that city, was buried Monday at Bay View Cemetery here. Mr. Ballard had been insurance manager for the Securities Mortgage Co. in Seattle and was past president of the Arboretum Foundation. Surviving are the widow, Phyllis (the former Phyllis Purdy); sons Ernest P. and Neil, both of Seattle, and Douglas of Vancouver, B. C.; and nine grandchildren.

BALLARD, Charles E., age 18, of Box 49, Cain Lake Road, Bellingham, passed away in a local hospital Tuesday, August 20, (1951). Charles had resided here his entire life and was a student at the Bellingham High School. He leaves to survive, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Halford Ballard, at home; three brothers, Robert D., at home, Pfc. Don Ballard, at Fort Benning, Ga., and Phil Ballard, of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Lt. Ramona Ballard, of the U. S. army air force, Maxwell, Ala., and Yvanda Ballard, WAVE, U.S. navy, Great Lakes training center. BALLARD, Donald R., age 68, 1200 Lincoln St., space 441, passed away Mon. Oct. 22, 1979. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, son Gary of Bellingham, brother Wendell of Bellingham. A retired bookkeeper, she had been a resident of Bellingham and Cain Lake areas since 1930, and was a member of the Acme Presbyterian Church. Surviving are 2 daughters, Ramona Villani of Cain Lake and Yvanda St. Amour of Anchorage; 3 sons, Don of Cain Lake, Phillip of Hamilton, Montana and Robert of Lake Tahoe; 1 brother, Floyd Ommen of Nampa, Idaho; also 7 grandchildren. BALLAS, James, Leopold Hotel, a resident of Bellingham for the past two weeks, passed away at a local hospital Saturday evening, Nov. 10, (1945) after a brief illness. Mr. Ballas was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Culinary and Beverage Workers Union of Anchorage, Alaska. The remains rest at the Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home and will be removed to the Home Undertaking Company in Seattle, where services will be conducted and interment made.

BALLER, Anna, 80 years of age. Resident of Acme, formerly from Sedro Woolley and Seattle. Died at the Skagit Valley Convalescent Center, Tuesday, July 26, (1977). She was born Aug. 1, 1896 in North Dakota and had formerly been employed at the Old Memorial Hospital in Sedro Woolley as a cook. Her husband, Max, preceded her in death in 1963. Survived by 2 sons, Don and Ray, both Seattle residents; a daughter, Irene Hayes, Acme; 2 sisters, Theresa Gerving, North Dakota, Katheryn Scherting, Montana; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. BALLER, Clarence E., age 89 of 700 32nd St., passed away Mon. March 24, 1980. He was born June 15, 1891 in Bellingham, and was a life resident of the community. A retired poultry farmer, he was a member of Whatcom Lodge No. 151 F & AM, The Scottish Rite Bodies, The Nile Temple of the Shrine and a member of Maple Leaf Chapter O.E.S. No. 58. He is survived by 1 son, Billy M. Baller of City; 1 daughter, Mrs. Barbara Broten, City; 5 grandchildren; 9 greatgrandchildren. Services will be held Wed. March 26 at 1 pm at the Jones Funeral Home. BALLER, Max, age 71, of Acme, passed away in Mesa, Ariz., Monday, Jan. 14, (1963). Mr. Baller was a resident of Acme for the past seven years, and prior to that time had resided in Seattle where he was a car repairman for the Union Pacific Railroad prior to his retirement.
