BURCH, Mollie Bertha, age 86, who resided at 1713 G Street, passed away in a local hospital, Tuesday, May 3, (1955) following a brief illness. Mrs. Burch had resided in Bellingham for the past 44 years and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. Hattie J. BURCHETTE, Maude M. - Memorial services will take place today at 2 p. m. for the life-long Bellingham resident Maude Mary Burchette, 88, at the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Burchette, formerly of 1117 Indian St., died Tuesday (Dec. 25, 1990) at the Sehome Park Care Center. She was born April 26, 1902 in Bellingham and had lived here her entire life. She worked as a clerk at the Custer Store for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Richard Burdett in 1986. Survivors include her daughter Lois C. BURG, Mary, age 79 years, of Olympia, Wash., formerly of Bellingham, passed away at a hospital in Seattle, Wash., Tuesday, September 4, (1945) after about four weeks' illness. Mrs. Burg was a member of the Lutheran Church and leaves to survive, two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Mabel Mosher, Mrs. Inez Allen, and Mr. Howard Burg, of Olympia, and Mr. Edward Burg residing in Oregon. Also seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, September 7, at 4 o'clock from the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Lawrence, with Rev. Clarence Haugen, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was made in the church cemetery, under the direction of Bingham-Dahlquist Funeral Home.

BURGER, Corporal Albert, who entered the service of his county in 1942, was killed in action in Italy, May 26, 1944. He was born in Bellingham 28 years ago, July 6. His entire life had been spent in Bellingham prior to enlistment. He was an attendant at the First Christian church. He is survived by a little daughter, Kathie Jean, in California; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Burger, of Bellingham; two brothers, Harvey, of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Merle, of Bellingham; two sisters, Mrs. Annabell Emley, and Mrs. Helen Ford, both of Bellingham; also numerous other relatives. BURGESS, Elizabeth A. M., died in a Wenatchee convalescent center Wed. (Jan. 7, 1981) following an extended illness. She was born April 6, 1888 in Ontario, Canada. She spent her early life there & was married to Sidney H. Burgess May 12, 1909 at Vancouver, Canada. The family moved to B'ham in 1919 & she had made her home there until 1967 when she came to Wenatchee to be near her daughter. Mrs. Burgess had been a grocery clerk for many years & for several years had been employed in a B'ham hospital. Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Marion Stokesberry, Wenatchee; 2 grandchildren; 6 greatgrandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1948 & by 4 brothers & 4 sisters. Concluding services & the interment will follow in Greenacres Cemetery in Bellingham at a later date. BURGESS, Jennett, age 92 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Thursday, September 6, (1945). Mrs. Burgess had lived in Bellingham for the past thirty-six years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry C. Phillippi; three grandchildren, Herebert Philippi, Columbia, Mo., Jean Philippi, WAC, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Quinn Fisher this city. BURGESS, Sidney Herbert, age 64, passed away at the family home, 2427 Utter Street, Monday, April 12, (1948). BURGHOFFER, Nell Seers of 1215 Taylor Ave., passed away in a local hospital Friday, April 26, (1957). Mrs. Burghoffer had resided in this community for the past 55 years and was a member of the Garden St. Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women of Rotary, the American Rose Society, and the Y.W.C.A. BURGMAN, Louise, age 88 of Lynden, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, (1976). Born in Nashua, Iowa, home of the "Little Brown Church," Mrs. Burgman moved to Whatcom County in 1924. Mrs. Burgman had been active in nursing in the county for many years and had trained and worked in the Lindlaar Hospital in Chicago - San Francisco General Hospital. She was a member of the Lynden Assembly of God Church and was married to her husband George in 1943. Mr. Burgman passed away in 1959. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including, Mrs. Louise Post of Sumas, Edgar Forthun of Everson, Lewis Forthun of Orville and Oscar Forthun of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 30 in the Gillies Funeral Chapel of Lynden with Rev. Nels Lien officiating. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

BURGMAN, W. George, age 82, who resided at 2116 Franklin St., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Nov. 5, (1959) following an extended illness. Mr. Burgman had resided in Bellingham for the past 37 years and was a retired stone and brick mason. He leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Louise C. Burgman of the family home; one brother, William and one sister, Mrs. Cameron Doughty, both of Canada; his niece, Mrs. Evelyn Baxter of Mount Vernon; his nephew, Clarence Willard of Ferndale, also other nieces and nephews. BURGRAFF, Gertrude E. - Lifetime Lynden resident Gertrude E. Burgraff passed away at the home of her daughter MaryJo Martin in Lynden on Sunday, Jan. 26, 1992 at the age of 82. Mrs. Burgraff was born in Lynden on May 11, 1906, a daughter of Walter and Ida (VanderYacht) Telgenhoff. She graduated from Lynden High School in 1927. She was employed at what is now GTE for 44 years, from 1928 to 1972, first as an operator, and she retired as office manager of the Commercial Department. She was a member of the Lynden VFW Auxiliary and the Lynden Senior Center, where she was a former board member. She attended First Baptist Church in Lynden. In Vancouver, Wash. in 1937, she was married to Bert Burgraff and he passed away in 1938. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, MaryJo Martin and husband Larry of Lynden; sister Lana VanOver of Lynden; brother George Telgenhoff and wife Bernice of Lynden; sisters-in-law Shirley Wasar of Seattle, Phyllis Ryan of Seattle and Bertha Abrams of Bellingham; and three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Besides her husband, Gertrude was preceded in death by three brothers and friend Ted Harkness in 1988. A memorial funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Rev. BURGRAFF, Kathleen Elnora age 62 formerly of 1797 Kok Rd., Lynden passed away on Tues. Jan. 26, 1982. A life time Lynden area resident, Mrs. Brugraff grew up in the Ten Mile area and was also a member of the Ten Mile Grange. She had attended the Assembly of God Church & was the adopted Rainbow Grandmother of Lynden Rainbow Assembly No. 70. She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter 12 of Lynden. In 1939 she was married to her husband Hugo in Port Orchard & Mr. Burgraff died in 1969. She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Betty Tatsch, San Antonio, Texas & Mrs. Judy Washburn of Snohomish; a brother, Mr. Bud Klander of Issaquah; step brother Dick Klander of Sumas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & many friends. BURK, Martin, age 84 years, a resident of the Sunrise district, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elsie Pettit, of Custer, Thursday evening, February 1, (1945). Mr. Burk was a pioneer resident of the county, homesteading in the Sunrise district in 1886 and had lived there ever since. He was a member of the Egg & Poultry Association and a charter member of the Dairymen's Association. Surviving relatives are three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Pettit, of Custer, Mary Burk, at home, Mrs. Anna Phillips, of San Diego; two sons, Val R. Burk and George Burk, in Alaska; one brother, Jacob, in Germany; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. BURK, Mary Katherine. - Whatcom County lost one of its outstanding citizens with the passing of Mary Katherine Burk, age 80, on Thurs., June, 7, 1979. Mary Burk was the daughter of Martin & Marie Burk, pioneers of the Delta district. She was born Nov. 13, 1898 in a log cabin on her parents farm. She attended the Sunrise Grade School, where she completed the 8th grade. She then went to Lynden High School, where she graduated in 1916. She then attended Bellingham Normal School and graduated in 1918. She taught at Sunrise Grade school for some years, then at North Star School in the Ferndale area and finally at Sunshine School near Lynden. After retiring from teaching to care for her ailing father, she farmed the homestead place, where her parents had resided until their passing. Miss Burk was the Delta correspondent for the Lynden Tribune for 57 years and with her sister, Elsie Pettit, was the last rural correspondent for the Bellingham Herald. She also wrote weekly columns for the Ferndale Record and Blaine Journal for many years. In 1922 Mary Burk joined the Grange at Gulf and later transferred her membership to the Delta Grange, in the fall of 1928, she was elected secretary for service beginning in 1929. She was secretary of the Delta Grange for 44 years, from 1929 to 1972. In 1973 Miss Burk received her Gold Sheaf pin for 50 years continuous membership in the grange. All together, Miss Burk was a grange member for 57 years and a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Custer for over 50 years. She is survived by 2 sisters, Elsie B. Pettit of Custer, Anna B. Phillips of Bellingham; a brother, George Burk of the Pioneer Home in Sitka, Alaska. Her younger brother, Val Burk, preceded her in death in 1964. She is also survived by 6 nieces, Mary Lou Pettit Showman of Bremerton, Bonna Burk Davis of Yakima, Maryann Burk Carver of Palo Alto, Calif., Amy Burk Wright of Lynden, Valla Burk Casebeer of Lynden and Annette Burk Day of Bellingham and a nephew, Glen Pettit Jr. of Custer and numerous grand nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of the Gillies Funeral Home with Rev. Geoff Piper officiating. Cremation will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park.

BURK, Paul Michael, age 69, of 1228 State Street, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1948) evening following a short illness. Mr. Burk had been a resident of Bellingham for the past twenty years. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption. BURKE, Tom N., age 83, of whom was a resident of Columbia Valley for the past 50 years passed away in a local hospital Oct. 1, (1976). BURKE, William R., age 88, of Zenith, Wash., passed away in that city Monday, Feb. 8, (1954). Mr. Burke had resided at Zenith for the past four years, and formerly had resided at Anacortes. He had operated a shingle mill before his retirement. He was a member and past master of Fidalgo Lodge, F. & A. M., at Anacortes, and had served as water superintendent and as mayor in Anacortes. Surviving relatives include a step-daughter, Mrs. Grace Belford, of Bellingham; a step-granddaughter, Mrs. R. G. Hillyard, of Bellingham, and three great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Burkee was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Tacoma and had been making her home with her daughter for the past few years. Surviving her besides Mrs. Banks are two other daughters, Mrs. Ruth Askegaard, of Comstock, Minn., and Mrs. Clara Olson, of Tacoma; five grandchildren, Edward Olson Jr., of Seattle, Dunham, John and Arthur Askegaard, of Comstock, Minn., and Mrs. Mina Qualley, also of Comstock; two great- grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Maria Butler, of Northwood, Ia., and numerous nieces and nephews. BURLEY, Luther H., age 36, of 701 25th Street, passed away at home Friday, April 16, (1954). Mr. Burley had resided in this community for the past 15 years, and was a foreman for Pacific Veneer and Plywood Corporation. He was a veteran of the Second World War with the Army Air Force, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, William Matthews Post No. 1585. BURMAN, Adolph P., age 86, of Rt. 1, Everson passed away in a local Rest Home, Saturday, Sept. 23, (1961) following an extended illness. Mr. Burman had been a resident of the Everson area since 1940, moving here from Laramie, Wyoming. He'd been employed at the Union Pacific Railroad for 27 years, retiring in 1944. BURNET, Frank, a long-time former Bellingham resident, died suddenly Saturday (July, 1958) morning at his home in Menlo Park, Calif. He was born in Edinbrugh, Scotland, 74 years ago. According to his widow, Mrs. Ruth Burnet, former Western Washington College instructor, her husband was in the yard the day before and watched television Friday evening. Mr. Burnet came to Bellingham in 1910 and for 40 years was employed at the Pacific American Fisheries, retiring in 1953. He was also active in Bellingham Theater Guild productions. The Burnets moved to Menlo Park in 1954 to be near their daughter, Jean, at Stanford Research Institute. Survivors include, besides his wife and daughter, a stepson, William B. Hussey, the American consulate in Chiang Mai, Thailand; a sister, Janet B. Burnet, Seattle; three nephews, Capt. Ralph Turner, U.S. Army; George Turner, Seattle and James Burnet, Sydney, Aus.; two nieces, Mary Satterfield, Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Betty Pugh, Spokane, and others in Scotland. Memorial service will be held in Menlo Park Monday.

BURNETT, Russell A., beloved brother of John H. Burnett of Bellingham, passed away in Northridge, Calif. Oct. 15, (1977). Mr. Burnett spent more than 30 years as a graphic art instructor with the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was recognized statewide as an authority in the field of graphic art. He was cited by both the LA City County and LA County Board of Supervisors for printing excellence. BURNS, Eggert A. - A memorial service for Eggert A. Burns, 91, a retired Point Roberts attorney, will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 13, at the Point Roberts Trinity Community Church. Mr. Burns, of 229 Marine Drive, Point Roberts, died Friday (Aug. 23, 1991) at his home. He was born Aug. 19, 1900, in Point Roberts to John and Rosa Burns. He married Jennie Christiansen on June 12, 1951, in Point Roberts. A graduate of the University of Washington Law School, he was admitted to the bar in 1932. BURNS-THOM, Gertrude A., 97, a lifelong county resident, died on Friday, Sept. 18, (1992) in Lynden. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Gillies Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Lynden Cemetery. Mrs. Burns-Thom was born Nov. 17, 1895, in Nooksack to Robert and Serena Burns. She married Alexander Burns on April 15, 1919, in Vancouver, B. C. They owned a dairy farm near Lynden. Mr. Burns died in 1963. She married Louie Thom on Dec. 4, 1976, in Lynden. Mr. Thom died in 1986. Mrs. Burns-Thom was a member of World of Life Family Church in Lynden, Clam Digger's Association, Greenwood Writers Club and the writer's club at Lynden Senior Center. Many of her articles were published in a book about early Lynden residents. Survivors include sons Robert Burn of Moses Lake and James and David Burns of Lynden; step-sons Bruce Thom of Walla Walla, Irving Thom of Everson and Henry Gates of Ferndale; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. BURNSIDE, Elizabeth H., age 89 of 2510 Grant St., passed away Jan. 5, 1980 in Bellingham. She was born Feb. 7, 1890 in Streeter, Illinois. She moved to Washington State in 1895 and she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was active in the Daughters of the King. Mrs. Burnside helped organize the Leisure Time Club. BURNSIDE, Genevieve, age 54, who resided at 2320 C street, passed away in a local hospital, Wednesday, Nov. 28, (1962) following a brief illness. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption, the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and St. Elizabeth Circle. She leaves to survive two sisters, Mrs. Anne Ferguson and Mrs. Josephine Chatterton, both of Bellingham, also four nieces. BURPEE, Herbert, age 64 years, of Moclips, Wash., passed away as the result of a heart attack on Monday, Oct. 31, (1956). Mr. Burpee was a former resident of Bellingham and was a member of the Washington State Farmers Co-Op; also the Shingle Weavers Union, Local 2630, of Seattle. He leaves to survive his wife, Mrs. Lottie Burpee of Moclips, Wash.; his father, Charles Burpee, Vancouver, B. C.; three nephews, Wade and Herbert Malcolm, both of Bellingham, and Percy Malcolm of Cottage Grove, Ore.; two nieces. Rev. BURROUS, C. M. "Charlie", age 96, of Ferndale, passed away Tues., May 4, (1976). Mr. Burrous had been a resident of the Ferndale area since 1904 and was a pioneer - contractor and road builder. He is survived by three sons, C. O. BURSE, Lloyd E., age 68, of 1244 Grant St., passed away in a Seattle hospital Friday, Aug. 25, (1961). A resident of this community for the past 15 years, Mr. Burse had been the chief of the civil police at the Naval Air Station at Oak Harbor, had been a welder at the Bellingham Shipyard, was a veteran of WWI, and was a Past Commander of Chapter No. 19, DAV, and was a Past District Commander, Southern Oregon, VFW. Surviving relatives inlcude the widow, Mabel S. at the family home; a son, Richard D., of Bellingham; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Barron of Portland, Mrs. Carol Sigueroa of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Dorothy Mann of Bellingham; and 7 grandchildren. BURTENSHAW, Allen G., of 1202 Washington Street, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, June 21, (1955). Mr. Burtenshaw was a life resident of Bellingham, had owned his own store here and for many years had been associated in business at Bochnak's. He was a life member of the B. P. O. Elks, Bellingham Lodge No. 194. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Burtenshaw at home; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Hudson, and Mrs. Archie Vance, both of this city; four grandchildren, Robert Allen Hudson, Sally, Marsha and Judy Vance; two nephews, Denver and Ory Burtenshaw, all of this city, and many other relatives. The remains will lie in state at the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home until the time of the funeral service. BURTENSHAW, Brett. Funeral services for Brett Burtenshaw, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Burtenshaw, former Bellingham residents now living at Mercer Island, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mercer Island Methodist Church. The family requests no flowers but memorials may be made in his memory to Washington State University. The young man was killed in an automobile accident Monday in Everett. He had been working for his father at the Kingdome, where the senior Burtenshaw operated the food concession. The parent also was the former operator of the Alpine Restaurant here.

BURTENSHAW, Clarence Henry, age 70, of Moclips, Wash., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, January 17, (1952). Mr. Burtenshaw was a retired shingle weaver and had resided in Moclips for the past 15 years, having been visiting here for the past two weeks. He leaves to survive, three sons, D. A. Burtenshaw and Ory Burtenshaw, both of this city, and Henry Burtenshaw, of Portland, Ore., and one brother, A. G. Burtenshaw, also of this city. The remains were forwarded to the Pinick-Coleman mortuary, Hoquiam, by the funeral home of Harlow-Hollingsworth for services and interment.

BURTENSHAW, Edith, age 53, of 203 N. Garden St., passed away at home suddenly Sunday, Aug. 10, (1958). Mrs. Burtenshaw had resided in Bellingham all her life. BUSCH, L. P. "Joe", age 53, of 808 Liberty, passed away at a local hospital, Tuesday, May 20, (1958) following a lingering illness. Mr. Busch had resided in Bellingham for the past 28 years and was a member of the B.P.O.E. No. 194 Lodge. He was employed by Ashe Motor Co. as a salesman. He leaves to survive his wife, Gene; one son, Robert both of the family home; two sisters and one brother in Denmark. BUSH, Deo, age 85 of Marysville, formerly of Blaine died Friday, January 7, 1983 in Marysville at home after an extended illness. He was born September 28, 1897 at Milan, Michigan and moved to Blaine in his youth. He had lived in Blaine for more than 60 years and was a logger in his earlier days; was a Warehouseman for Alaska Packers for many years, retiring 20 years ago. He leaves his wife, Marian of Marysville; a son & daughter-in-law, Jack & Mavis Bush of Marysville; 3 grandchildren, Jackie Washburn of Kent; Carolyn Storme and Steven Bush, both of Anacortes; 1 sister, Wanda Colvin of Anacortes. BUSHORE, Allie Marie, 52, died Saturday (Nov. 2, 1985) in Cloquet, Minn. She was born June 1, 1933, in Wright, Minn., and had lived in Bellingham for many years. She is survived by two brothers, including Roger Pearson of Bellingham; three sisters, including Esther Hillius of Bellingham and Elaine Schrecengost of Ferndale; and a son. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Minnesota.

BUSS, Frank R., age 63, 3007 Ferry Ave., passed away Saturday, Dec. 4, (1965). Mr. Buss was a member of Broadway United Presbyterian Church, and was a twenty one year resident of this city. He was a retired machinist. Survivors are his widow, Verena W.; 3 daughters Mrs. Barbara Burrow, City; Mrs. Maxine Cray of Alderwood Manor; Mrs. Aritha McAllister, Portland, Ore.; 3 sons, Roger J., Alderwood Manor; Dale A., U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, and Delano F. of Seattle; six grandchildren; a brother, John Buss of Amhurst, S. BUSS, Mrs. Margaret, age 84 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Beulah Willison, 2413 Humboldt street, Thursday, May 26, (1949), after an illness of one week. Mrs. Buss had been a resident of Bellingham for the past year, having moved here at that time from Britton, S. Dak., where she was a member of the Presbyterian church. Surviving relatives include, besides Mrs. Willison, two sons: Frank Buss, Bellingham and John of Amhurst, S. Dak.; two brothers Tony Bocker, Mitchell, S. Dak., and Klass Bocker, Forreston, Ill.; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The remains will be forwarded from the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home to Britton, S. Dakota, where funeral services will be held and interment made.

BUSS, Milton. - Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Richard Beddow Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Woodlawn Cemetery for Milton E. Buss age 61. Mr. Buss had lived in the Ferndale area for 23 years. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Bills of Ferndale and Miss Bertha Buss of Bellingham; three sons, Parnell in Massachusetts, Leroy of Azusa, Calif., and Marvin of Ferndale. BUSSANICH, Christopher M., age 21 of 4168 Guide Meridian, Bellingham passed away Sunday, April 4, 1982, as a result of an accident. He was born August 25, 1960 in Bellingham. He was a graduate of Bellingham High School and a member of the Retail Clerk's Union, United Food & Commercial Workers Union No. 44 and was employed at Fred Meyer's. BUSSANICH, Michael J., age 64 of 2105 I St., passed away Monday, Oct. 20, (1975). Mr. Bussanich had been a resident of Bellingham for the past 45 years, and was a Master Barber. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church Mens Study Group and the Barber's Union. He leaves to survive his wife, Hazel of the family home; 1 son, Harry of this city; 2 grandchildren, Lee Anne and Christopher, both City; his mother, Mrs. Elena Bussanich of Burnaby; 2 brothers, Anthony of Prince Rupert and Mario of Burnaby; 2 sisters, Irma Prouix of Prince Rupert and Mary Rerecich of Seattle; numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Greenacres Memorial Park with Dr. J. Vincent Crane officiating under the direction of the Westford Funeral Home. BUSSARD, John O., 56, Oakville, a former Lynden resident, died Tuesday (May 7, 1974). Born and reared in Lynden, Mr. Bussard was a member of the Whatcom County Clamdiggers Association and was a member of the Oakville school board. Survivors include the wife, Mildred of Oakville; four daughters, Nancy Wollen of Olympia, Sandra Bicchieri of Spokane, Kathy Church of McCleary, and Carol Arnott of Hoquiam; two sons, John Jr. and Bob, both of Oakville; three sisters, Pearl Hos and Bonnie Van Alsburg, both of Lynden, and Elaine Barrett of Eureka, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Bussard's body was donated the University of Washington medical school. The family suggests memorials be made to the Oakville Civic Scholarship Fund for Oakville school students.

BUSSING, Albert N., age 75 years, passed away in the N. P. hospital in Tacoma Saturday, October 13, (1945). Mr. Bussing came to Bellingham forty-five years ago and was the general agent for the N. P. Railroad until he retired ten years ago. He was a life member of the B. P. O. Elks No. 194, a Past Master and for fifteen years secretary of Bellingham Bay Lodge No. 44, F. & A. M., Scottish Rite, Nile Temple Shrine and the Kiwanis Club. His survivors include the widow, Elizabeth K. Bussing; two sons, James W., Port Angeles, Wash., Dr. John A. Bussing, Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Dr. Grace B. Sherrer, Kent, Ohio; two grandsons, James Michael, Port Angeles, and Billie Bussing, Los Angeles; one granddaughter, Mrs. Carroll Jonathon Brown, and one great-grandson, Johnathon Brown, Calirton, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Miller, Springfield, Ill. BUSSING, Mrs. Ella G., long time resident of Bellingham died Monday (Feb. 28, 1955) in an Everett hospital at the age of 95. She was the widow of John L. Bussing of this city who died in 1931. Born in Rock Island, Ill., April 22, 1859, she came to Washington and to Burlington in 1902, moved to Bellingham in 1923. Mrs. Bussing was a member of the Garden St. Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Floyd Bussing, now residing in Everett; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Wetteroth of Long Beach, Calif., seven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Everett Saturday at 1 p. m., in the Chalcombe & Finckel Chapel, the Rev. A. M. Chamberlin officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery.

BUSSING, Elizabeth Kay, age 79, of 1401 S. Cherry Street, Port Angeles, passed away in a Seattle hospital Tuesday, April 24, (1951). Mrs. Bussing had recently been making her home with her son in Port Angeles and had resided here for the previous 50 years. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church and the Order of Easter Star, Sehome Chapter, No. 17. Surviving her are two sons, James W., of Port Angeles, and Dr. John A. Bussing, of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Dr. Grace B. Sherrer, of Kenestand, Rhode Island; one granddaughter, Mrs. J. Brown, of Boston, Mass.; two grandsons, William Bussing, of Los Angeles, and Michael Bussing, of Port Angeles, and two great-grandchildren, Jonathon and Elizabeth Brown, of Boston. BUST, Cassius John, age 77, of Box 46, Acme, Washington, passed away at the family home Thursday, April 2, (1953). BUSWELL, Ray, age 92, 3115 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, passed away in Bellingham, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1993. He was born on May 1, 1901 in Ferndale to Mary (Underwood) and Ashley C. Buswell. He graduated from Whatcom High School in 1919 and from Washington State College in 1924. He married Frances Edwards on March 12, 1937 in Dietrich, ID. Mr. Buswell was a lifetime Whatcom County resident and was a member of First Congregational Church of Bellingham. He was employed by the Whatcom County Health Dept. as county sanitarian for 17 years. After retirement he owned and operated the Marine Drive Mobile Park for 15 years. He is survived by his wife Frances, a daughter Phyllis Woods, Tillamook, OR; a son Roger F. Buswell, Bellingham; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren. Private family inurnment services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery at a later date. BUTCHER, Theodore F., age 71, passed away May 7, 1980, in Port Angeles. Born March 4, 1909 in England and immigrated to Canada when 12 years old. He was self-employed at age 16 and founded Ted Butcher, Inc., producing cedar poles & piling in Whatcom, Skagit & Snohomish counties. In recent years he conducted business in Grays Harbor County, Sequim, Washington, Sand Point and Plummer, Idaho. He is survived by his spouse, Gladys M. Butcher, of Sequim; 2 sons, Dennis Butcher of Sequim, and Dave Butcher of Plummer, Idaho; 7 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Wilfred Butcher of Toronto, Ontario, W. BUTTERFIELD, Caprice Kaufman, 24, of Seattle, died Saturday (Oct. 11, 1980) in a Seattle hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born March 11, 1956, in Fresno, Calif. She was employed by Britannia Jeans, and was known by many people in Whatcom County. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack VanZon of Blaine, a sister (Zan Kaufman), and her grandparents (Mr. & Mrs. John L. VanZon of Mt. Lake Terrace, Wanda Welke of Portland). BUTTERS, Elizabeth M., age 92, was born Dec. 29, 1895, and passed away Sept. 15, 1988. She was born to a pioneer family; her father Henry O'Neill, homesteaded on Orcas Island when Washington was still a territory. She was a member of Camano Rebekah Lodge No. 334. She is survived by four children: Hazel Rodrigues and Norman Bachert, both of Camano Island, Edna Mentch of Orcas Island, and Alfred Bachert of Bellingham; seven grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Erickson of Shelton, Wa. BUTTERS, Gene, age 64 years, who resided at Doe Bay, Orcas Island, Washington, passed away in a local hospital, Thursday, Nov. 10, (1960) following an extended illness. Mr. Butters had resided in Doe Bay for the past 12 years and was formerly a resident of Bellingham. He leaves to survive, his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Butters of Doe Bay; two sons, Alfred Backert (sic), Bellingham, and Norman Bachert (sic) of Seattle; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Mentch of Doe Bay and Mrs. Hazel Rodrigues of San Diego; also eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. W. McArthur, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, will conduct funeral services on Monday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a. m. in the Chapel of the Bingham & Jerns Funeral Home, followed by cremation. The family requests in lieu of flowers friends may contribute to the Medical Center at Eastsound, Orcas Island, Washington.

BUTTERS, James McKeen, 92, who many years ago operated a store at Bellingham and at Marietta, where he also was the postmaster, died Saturday (Aug. 6, 1927) at Seattle at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. B. Kellogg. Funeral services were held this afternoon in that city. Mr. Butters was the father of June Butters, of Bellingham. He retired from business seventeen years ago and removed to Seattle. He came to Puget Sound thirty-seven years ago. He was chaplain of the Green Lake G. A. R. post, No. 112.

BUTTERS, James McKeen, age 86 years, who resided since 1909 at Orcas Island, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, March 3, (1956) following a lingering illness. Mr. Butters leaves to survive one son, Gene Butters of Orcas Island. Rev. Harvey H. Larson will officiate at funeral services on Wednesday, Mar. 7, at 1 p. m. in the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home, followed by cremation.

BUTTON, Byron Clifford, age 52, of Wenatchee, passed away suddenly in that city, Wednesday, January 3, (1951). Mr. Button had been a resident of Bellingham for 22 years before moving to Everett and then Wenatchee nine years ago. He was a logger in this area. Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha, and a son, Ardell, both Wenatchee; a step-son, John Ergler, of Everett; two daughters, Mrs. Fern Reynolds and Mrs. Arlene Schockley, both of Wenatchee; a brother, Leslie Button, in California; four half-brothers, John Spore, of Bellingham, Howard and Richard Spore, of Seattle, and Harlan Spore, of Port Orchard; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Orr and Miss Beulah Button, both of Seattle; six grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday, January 6, at 10:30 a. m. within the Chapel of the Bingham-Dahlquist & Jerns Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Muir officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

BUTTON, Dorothy Deerwester, of 600 So. Forest St., passed away Friday, Oct. 17, (1975). A Whatcom County resident since childhood, Mrs. Button had been employed by WWSC as a college administrator and was active in many community organizations. BUTTON, Lynn E., age 78 of Deming, Washington passed away Tues. August 18, 1981. Mr. Button had been a resident of Whatcom Co. for most of his life & was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 194 of Bellingham & had been a Union Oil Distributor for many years in Deming. He is survived by a former wife, Mabel of Lynden; 2 sons, Ron Button of Bellingham & Tom Button of Charleston, S. BUZZELL, Mary V., age 84, passed away at her residence, 208 Alaska Building, Friday, June 15, (1951). Mrs. Buzzell had resided in this community for the past 55 years and was a member of the Revival Tabernacle. Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth H. Heyes, of Bellingham; one step-daughter, Mrs. Millie Mason, of Lansing, Mich.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Herney, of Hastings, Mich., also numerous nieces and nephews. BUTTS, Alice M., age 77, of 1830 Grant St., passed away at home suddenly Monday, Nov. 3, (1958). Mrs. Butts had been a resident of this community for the past 37 years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. BUTTS, Elmer T., age 71, of 1830 Grant Street, passed away in a local hospital Sunday, February 20, (1949). Mr. Butts had resided in this community for the past fifteen years and was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. BUTTS, Henry Burt, Captain, age 76, of 311 Potter Street, passed away at the family home, Monday, June 12, (1950). Captain Butts had resided here for the past 35 years and was with the U. S. Army Transport Service, having retired in 1948. BUXEL, Emelie A. age 101, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 1984. She was born in Missouri & came to the Seattle area in 1905 where she was a Boeing employee for many years. She came to Ferndale in 1977. BUYS, Henry, age 89, of 1201 W. Grover Street, Lynden, passed away at his home, Thursday, May 10, (1962) following a short illness. He was a retired farmer, had been a resident of Lynden since 1944. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. BUYS, Gerrit. Funeral services for Mr. Gerrit Buys, age 81, 1709 Front St., Lynden, were conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Third Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Gerrit W. Sheeres officiating. Burial following in Monumenta Cemetery. Mr. Buys, who died in Lynden on Sunday, Dec. 1, (1985) was born in the Netherlands on April 23, 1904. A retired farmer, Mr. Buys moved to Minnesota from Holland in 1919. On Feb. 22, 1931, he was married to Elsie DeYoung in Crookston, Minn. and in 1939 they moved with their family to the Lynden area. He was a member and former elder at Third Christian Reformed Church and was also a former board member of Ebenezer Christian School.
