The Ithaca cheese factory closed work for the season about Nov. 1st. Johnney Warner the maker, turned out some as fine cheese as were ever made. As we do not know the exact figures we will not at present mention the extent of the season's production. There will be a dairyman's meeting at Morrison's Hall, Ithaca on Wednesday evening, Dec. 27th. Those who patronized the factory the past season will be present, and all others interested in the dairy business are cordially invited. Important questions will be discussed, and arrangements made for next year's work. Rev. F. B. Moulton had a severe stroke of paralysis last Wednesday, which almost terminated his useful earthly career. Under the best medical care he is now convalescing. Elmer Freeborn has returned from Iowa where he has been at work the past year. Silas Davis manufactured 1135 gallons of sorghum this season, and Matt. Gassen 1200 gallons, and other mills hereabouts, large quantities. Wm. Simpson raised seven acres which produced 500 gallons. The acreage will be very large on this valley another year. Our hunters are out seeking game after every snow storm. It has been said there were 10 deer in Richland county and 20 Winchesters. If that be the case, Jas. Simpson and Wm. Ghering have killed five of them, and without a Winchester at that. Wm. Parker and P.A. Mickle of Sextonville have also taken some of this game. Several foxes have also been caught. Wm. Poole is "the boss" on hog raising this season. His sales for 1882 have netted him $1,000., Jacob and Marshal Davis sold 12 of the nicest looking hogs on the creek this year. Miss Carrie Morrow, of Fancy Creek, is teaching the school in district No. 4. Dan German, Newton and Newell Davis, Addie Healey, and Carry and Nellie Dow, of this district, are attending the Sextonville schools. |
