The date for holding the state fair has been fixed for September 7th to 11th and Madison selected as the place.

Robert Wright, who shot and killed his father at Thorp, Clark county, during a quarrel between the two on the 4th inst., has been acquitted , the evidence tending to show that the son did the shooting in self-defense, in order to save his own life and the lives of his two younger sisters.

The locomotive broke down yesterday morning and another was sent from Madison to pull out the morning train. The large delegation of ladies who went from here to attend the meeting of the woman suffragists at Madison were on the ragged edge while awaiting the arrival of the relief engine for fear they would be left.

Milwaukee dispatches state that Lake Michigan is frozen from shore to shore, the ice ranging from nine inches to three feet in thickness, something that has not occurred before in a good many years. The propellers City of Ludington and Wisconsin are frozen in somewhere in the lake. The Michigan which has been missing for some days has been found imprisoned in the ice off Sangatuck. Seventeen of her crew reached the eastern shore, having made a perilous journey of twelve hours over the ice, leaving the vessel because the provisions were growing short. A crew of eighteen were left in charge of the propeller.

The Boscobel Dial tells of a most distressing accident which occurred on the Galena division of the Chicago, & Northwestern railroad a few days ago. The facts as we learn them are about as follows: A young man, Frederick Klett, aged about eighteen , was crossing the railroad tracks with a load of manure. The horses and the front bob had just crossed the track when the hind bob on which the young man was standing was struck by the cow-catcher of an eastern bound mail train. As soon as possible the train was stopped and search was made for the body, but in vain. Finally the engine was backed to the scene of the accident and the young man’s hat was picked up; shortly after the lifeless body of the unfortunate victim was found hanging at the side of the engine with neck, legs and arms broken.

A Happy Wedding Event
A quiet and unostentatious wedding took place at the residence of the bride’s parents in this village, last Wednesday, the contracting parties being Rev. W. F. Schurmann, son of William Schurmann, who resides about four miles south of town, and Miss Lillie Wood, daughter of Elder Wood. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. A. Siewert, pastor the Ash Creek Evangelical church, in the presence of a few friends. Mr. Schurmann has recently graduated from the Napierville, Illinois, college, where he had for the past year of more been studying for the ministry. The bride has been one of the best and most successful teachers in the county. The newly wedded couple will visit friends in Milwaukee for a short time, after which they will proceed to Nebraska where Mr. Schurmann will take charge of a mission and enter upon his life’s work. Their many friends in this section wish them Godspeed.

Dedication of the Christian Church.
The church which has been in course of erection during the last six months by the Christian association is completed and ready to be opened for worship. The building, which has heretofore been fully described in these columns, is a fine structure and a credit to the energy and zeal of the members of that society. The new church will be dedicated next Sunday. The following will be the order of exercises:
10:30 A.M., dedicatory sermon by Elder L. L. Carpenter, of Wabash, Indiana.
2:30 P.M. union services of all the churches.
7:30 P.M., sermon by Elder L. L. Carpenter.
A series of meetings will be continued from night to night during the week and an earnest invitation is extended to all to attend.
