Unknown Photos
Many of us have found photos in our relatives'
picture boxes or photo albums that we cannot identify and so this page has

I'm adding new submissions at the bottom of this page!
To submit your
"Unidentified Photos," please send them to me at

And please include any information that might give others any clues you
might have about your "Unidentified
Photos!"
You might also want to check out our Lamar
County Photo Album for pictures of identified people, places and events
in the history of Lamar County, Alabama.
And....here they are! Please
email me if you can identify any of the people in these photos or if you
can identify the location, if nothing else!

This is a picture of
Bedford School in the 1920’s. I do not know the people. My Mother (Lucy
Corbell Criddle), an Aunt (Ada

an Uncle (Jackson Corbell)
are in it. I would love to know who the others are. Bedford was
located west of Vernon. Thank you,
Marty Harper

All I know about the photo is that the
people are somehow related to my great-grandfather, James Butler Miller,
who was born in Sanford/Lamar County in 1874 and moved to Texas at age
3. He was the son of John
W. Miller and Margaret A. E. Cloer Miller, also both of Fayette/Lamar
County. John W. was the son of John Miller (from South Carolina) and
Charlotte ("Indie") UNKNOWN (from Tennessee). I believe John and
Charlotte were among the first settlers of Fayette County around 1839.
Margaret was the daughter of William Johnson Cloer and Frances Eveline
Redus Cloer. That's as far back as I've gotten in my research on the
Millers.
The photo appears to have been taken at the Texas State Fair in Dallas
between 1900 - 1910 (judging from the clothing). But I'm not at all
sure of the date. It would be great if someone recognizes these
people. I am hoping they are Millers from Lamar County...possibly John
and Margaret's son, Beldin, and his family.
It is also possible the people in the photo are related by marriage.
James Miller married Etta Doss (b. 1875) of Marion County, Alabama in
1895. The two of them did not know each other in Alabama.

Here is another picture from Ada Dawkins Vail's picture box. Taken
appx. 1871-1873
The young man on the right is Tally Lester Durrant Dawkins,
my g grantdad and he looks about 10-13 yrs old.
The others I am not sure, #1 It could be the lady with her hand on
Tally's shoulder is Elvira and the girls are her sibblings. #2. It could
be that, it is Tally, b. 1861, his father and Mother, John W.(b. 1835)and
Elvira(?) ( b 1838). Dawkins with either John W Dawkins'
parents or Elvira's Parents ( I don't know Elvira's maiden name.....Can
anyone help me out here???
On the back it says Elvira's family. What, exactly, this means I am not
sure. Faye Walker jwalker@jelm.com
- added 5/23/2004 Update: I have found Elvira's last name.
It is Lowe. So this is the Lowe family, parents and sibblings of Elvira
Lowe with her and her son Tally Dawkins. Please update. Thanks
