Unknown Photos

Many of us have found photos in our relatives' picture boxes or photo albums that we cannot identify and so this page has been created to house copies of those "Unidentified Photos" of folks from Lamar County, Alabama!  Note:  I'm adding new submissions at the bottom of this page!

To submit your "Unidentified Photos," please send them to me at allison.saxman@gmail.com in .jpg (or .jpeg) format.  Please try and reduce the file size as much as possible.  And please include any information that might give others any clues you might have about your "Unidentified Photos!"

You might also want to check out our Lamar County Photo Album for pictures of identified people, places and events in the history of Lamar County, Alabama.

And....here they are!  Please email me if you can identify any of the people in these photos or if you can identify the location, if nothing else!

To see a larger view of these photos, please click on the thumbnails (small pictures) below and the image will begin loading in your browser.  You will need to use your browser's "back" button to return to this page.

All I know about the photo is that the people are somehow related to my great-grandfather, James Butler Miller, who was born in Sanford/Lamar County in 1874 and moved to Texas at age 3.  He was the son of John W. Miller and Margaret A. E. Cloer Miller, also both of Fayette/Lamar County.  John W. was the son of John Miller (from South Carolina) and Charlotte ("Indie") UNKNOWN (from Tennessee).  I believe John and Charlotte were among the first settlers of Fayette County around 1839.  Margaret was the daughter of William Johnson Cloer and Frances Eveline Redus Cloer. That's as far back as I've gotten in my research on the Millers.

The photo appears to have been taken at the Texas State Fair in Dallas between 1900 - 1910 (judging from the clothing).  But I'm not at all sure of the date.  It would be great if someone recognizes these people.  I am hoping they are Millers from Lamar County...possibly John and Margaret's son, Beldin, and his family.

It is also possible the people in the photo are related by marriage. James Miller married Etta Doss (b. 1875) of Marion County, Alabama in
1895.  The two of them did not know each other in Alabama.
