J. H. Cox Records Submitted by Dot Cox Smith From Mrs. Smith (with her submission):
Here are two letters written to my grandfather, John Henry Cox. The one
from Mr. Pearce addresses him as J. H. Cox, Sr. Actually there was no junior,
but his son was James Henry which caused some confusion. Then I included a
picture of my grandparents, John Henry and Manila Stidham Cox in their later
years. I do not know when the picture was made. I have some other items you
may want, also but will send them later...[snipped for privacy]...
Sincerely,
Dorothy Cox Smith
From Mrs. Cox (with her 2nd submission):
Here are two more items for you to look at and see if they are worth posting to the web site.
I have another one showing where my uncle A.L. Cox and H. H. Anglin were
hired by my grandfather, John Henry Cox, to move his possessions to Pauls
Valley, OK from Raimer, AL on Dec 16, 1901 but I am not sure it will come
through in e-mail. I can get the original as my brother has it and it might
come through if I use it. All these papers are very fragile! I have been
trying to send these things from copies I made a couple of years ago. We are
trying to be careful with the original papers.
I have a paper showing where John Henry paid some one by the name of G.
B. Mixon $10 for a Chas. Booker. Another paper is a receipt for money paid by
John Henry Cox to Oscar Sargent, dated April 3, 1885
I have two items that I think may be signed by my uncle James Henry Cox and
Jim Pearce and A. R. ? (I can't be sure what the last name is.) The one for
Geo. W. Scott Mfg. Co., Guin, AL is dated March 29, 1893. The other one is
Pearce's Mill, AL dated Jan 113, 1894 and I believe it is a business owned by
Jim Pearce and he deals in all kinds of fertilizers.
I have some odds and ends of paper, not the complete paper, but some have
names and dates on them such as Jasper W. Wiginton and Sarah A. Wiginton dated
Dec 9, 1885, other names W. W. Stidham, G. L. Kite, John Blake.; Emily Cox, J.
G. Boyett, R. W. Clark, clerk, dated Sept 1892; L. B. Williams, Wm E. Cox. I
don't know if these will be of interest to anyone. How I wish I had the
complete papers! The above W. W. Stidham is probably my great grandfather, my
grandmother Manila Stidham Cox's father. I am not sure who Emily Cox is, but I
feel sure she is related. I have tried to find out who she is. There was
some sort of court proceeding between Emily Cox and J. G. Boyett and in Sept
1892 and J. H.Cox is involved, but I don't know if he is my grandfather or my
uncle.
I am not sure how much of this you want if any of it.
