This index was created from the microfilm of the typed reconstructed index to the Sumter County, Alabama deeds 1833-1870. Both indexes are in one book-- grantee/grantor and grantor/grantee on alternating pages.

I have used the same spelling, etc. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish certain letters because of dirty typewriter keys. In place of entering "same," I have entered the appropriate names.

I am first making the entries by each book and checking them. Then I will sort the data in several different ways and create various data bases for the time period 1833-1870.

When I can get to the microfilm of the individual deed books, I will check the names and add the date of purchase and the date of recording. Also, where et al has been used, I will include each name as a separate entry. On some entries, I will add information to make the entry more meaningful--such as "Plot" will be change to Moore, John, plot of.

So, keep checking back to see if I have added information.

P.S. Please warn people that these are not perfect, being several generations removed from the originals.
