1892 Biography - S. O. Beauchamp

S. O. Beauchamp, one of the most influential citizens of Irene, Baton Rouge parish, La., is a native of Louisiana born in 1848. He received a good education, lacking two years of graduation. He was married in 1868 to Miss C. M. Nettles, who died in 1885. The first line of work in which he engaged after leaving school was the drug business at The Plains, East Baton Rouge parish. He afterward engaged in the mercantile trade, and carries a stock of $3,000. In connection with this business he finds time to superintend the cultivation of a plantation of 600 acres. The land is the most choice and produces a fine cotton crop annually. Mr. Beauchamp was married a second time, in 1884, to Miss Irene Netterville. Two children were born to this union, and two were born of the first marriage - one son and three daughters - all of whom still survive. The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Beauchamp is a member of the Knights of Pythias. He is the present postmaster of Irene, and has made a most efficient officer. He is a man of the highest standing in the community, and in every way merits the esteem in which he is held. W. W. Beauchamp, the father of our subject, was born in Louisiana in 1812, and reared a family of five children, of whom S. O. Beauchamp is the oldest. He was captain of the militia before the war. His death occurred in 1856.
