Welcome to Waldo County

Waldo County formed part of York County's territory until 1760, when Lincoln County was established, which included it until 1789, when Hancock County was established; this next held it until 1827, when, on February 7th, it was incorporated as the County of Waldo, and was named for Gen. Samuel Waldo. The establishment of Knox County in 1860 took off from Waldo County the towns of Appleton, Camden, Hope, North Haven and Vinalhaven.

The present boundaries of Waldo County include 26 towns and 1 city: the city of Belfast and the towns of Belmont, Brooks, Burnham, Frankfort, Freedom, Islesborough, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Lincolnville, Monroe, Montville, Morrill, Northport, Palermo, Prospect, Searsmont, Searsport, Stockton Springs, Swanville, Thorndike, Troy, Unity, Waldo and Winterport.

I am sad to report that Tom Elliott has passed away after a bout with cancer.  He was an avid supporter of Waldo County genealogy for many years. He will be missed by his family and his many Waldo County supporters.
