Welcome to the Waldo County, Maine GenWeb Site
Webmaster Emiritus Tom Elliott Webmaster Bill Wing 13 Feb 2014 |
Welcome to Waldo County Waldo County formed part of York County's territory until 1760, when Lincoln County was established, which included it until 1789, when Hancock County was established; this next held it until 1827, when, on February 7th, it was incorporated as the County of Waldo, and was named for Gen. Samuel Waldo. The establishment of Knox County in 1860 took off from Waldo County the towns of Appleton, Camden, Hope, North Haven and Vinalhaven. The present boundaries of Waldo County include 26 towns and 1 city: the city of Belfast and the towns of Belmont, Brooks, Burnham, Frankfort, Freedom, Islesborough, Jackson, Knox, Liberty, Lincolnville, Monroe, Montville, Morrill, Northport, Palermo, Prospect, Searsmont, Searsport, Stockton Springs, Swanville, Thorndike, Troy, Unity, Waldo and Winterport.

I am sad to report that Tom Elliott has passed away after a bout with cancer. He was an avid supporter of Waldo County genealogy for many years. He will be missed by his family and his many Waldo County supporters. 1. New queries have been posted for August, September, and October: Holden, Logan, Zollinger, Carey, Bartlett/Lyon, and Atkinson. 2. New queries been posted for November: Curtis, Greenlaw. 13 November 2013 3. Two new families have been added to the Families page courtesy of Andy Ringgold. The Robbins and Wight families. Andy is going to serve as contact for these two families. In addition I believe that we will shortly be able to post a genealogy of both these families courtesy of Andy. Thank you Andy. 11 November 2013 4. New query been posted for February: Davis/Keene. 13 February 2014
